Dear 222 News viewers, sponsored by smileband,

In a harrowing case that has gripped Greater Manchester, Stuart Everett, a 67-year-old pensioner, was brutally murdered and dismembered into 27 pieces, with his remains scattered across various locations in the region. The accused, 42-year-old Marcin Majerkiewicz, stood trial at Manchester Crown Court, facing charges of murder and manslaughter, both of which he denied.

Discovery of Remains

The grim sequence of events began on April 4, 2024, when a passer-by discovered Mr. Everett’s lower torso and thighs wrapped in cling film and concealed in an abandoned bunker at Kersal Dale nature reserve in Salford. This initial discovery prompted an extensive investigation, leading to the recovery of additional body parts at multiple sites across Greater Manchester. Despite these efforts, only about one-third of Mr. Everett’s body was ever recovered.

The Accused and the Victim

Both Mr. Everett and Mr. Majerkiewicz resided in a shared house in Winton, Salford, along with another individual. Mr. Everett, originally from Derby and born Roman Ziemacki to Polish parents, was the primary tenant, subletting rooms to others, including Mr. Majerkiewicz, a Polish national. Emails presented during the trial revealed that Mr. Everett referred to Mr. Majerkiewicz as his “partner,” indicating a close relationship between the two.

Circumstances of the Murder

The prosecution alleged that Mr. Majerkiewicz murdered Mr. Everett between March 27 and 28, 2024. A Home Office pathologist testified that Mr. Everett suffered severe blunt force trauma to the head, consistent with being struck by a hammer-like weapon. Following the fatal assault, Mr. Everett’s body was dismembered into 27 pieces using a hacksaw and serrated blade.

Evidence Presented

Forensic examinations of the shared residence uncovered significant bloodstains in Mr. Majerkiewicz’s bedroom, suggesting a violent incident occurred there. Notably, a section of carpet had been removed and replaced, with blood matching Mr. Everett’s DNA found on both the carpet and underlying floorboards. Additionally, blood spots were detected on the walls and furniture.

CCTV footage played in court showed Mr. Majerkiewicz making multiple trips carrying heavy bags to locations where Mr. Everett’s body parts were later discovered. Upon his arrest on April 25, 2024, Mr. Majerkiewicz was found in possession of Mr. Everett’s mobile phone and bank cards. Further evidence indicated that he had used Mr. Everett’s phone to send messages to the victim’s family, attempting to create the illusion that Mr. Everett was still alive.

Verdict

After deliberations, the jury found Mr. Majerkiewicz guilty of murdering Stuart Everett. The case highlighted the meticulous investigative work of the Greater Manchester Police and underscored the profound impact of such a heinous crime on the community.

Key Points:

Victim and Accused: Stuart Everett, a 67-year-old pensioner from Manchester, was murdered by his housemate, 42-year-old Marcin Majerkiewicz.

Brutal Dismemberment: Mr. Everett’s body was sawn into 27 pieces using a hacksaw and serrated blade.

Discovery of Remains: Body parts were found across multiple locations in Manchester, with the initial discovery made at Kersal Dale nature reserve.

Cause of Death: The victim suffered fatal blunt force trauma to the head, likely caused by a hammer-like weapon.

Evidence: Blood matching the victim’s DNA was found in Mr. Majerkiewicz’s room, including on the carpet and floorboards.

Deception: The accused used Mr. Everett’s phone to send misleading messages to his family, pretending he was alive.

Arrest: Upon his arrest, Mr. Majerkiewicz was found with the victim’s mobile phone and bank cards.

Verdict: After a trial at Manchester Crown Court, Majerkiewicz was found guilty of murder.

Conclusion:

The brutal murder of Stuart Everett and the subsequent dismemberment of his body shocked the Manchester community. The extensive investigation by Greater Manchester Police, supported by forensic evidence and CCTV footage, led to the conviction of Marcin Majerkiewicz. His attempts to cover up the crime by disposing of body parts and impersonating the victim were ultimately unsuccessful. The guilty verdict delivered by the court serves as a measure of justice for Mr. Everett’s family, though the horrific nature of the crime leaves lasting scars on those affected.

In early March 2025, Dubai authorities arrested Dutch nationals Samuel Onuha, a prominent TikTok influencer and entrepreneur, and his younger brother, Reuben Onuha, on charges of smuggling 250 kilograms of cocaine into the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The seized narcotics have an estimated street value of $60 million.

Background on the Onuha Brothers

Samuel, 25, and Reuben, 23, co-founded the fashion brand Icon Amsterdam in 2018, specializing in muscle-fit trousers designed for athletic men. The brand reportedly achieved significant success, with Samuel claiming personal earnings of €30 million. The brothers were also known for their lavish lifestyle, frequently showcasing luxury cars, expensive watches, and private jet trips on social media platforms.

Details of the Arrest

The arrests occurred in the early hours of March 1, following a raid on Samuel’s $50 million mansion in Palm Jumeirah, Dubai. Authorities allege that Samuel orchestrated a sophisticated drug smuggling operation, referred to internally as a “snow” network, involving the trafficking of 250 kilograms of cocaine into the emirate. The drugs were reportedly concealed in shipping containers routed from South America through Amsterdam to the UAE. Reuben is accused of aiding in the logistics and distribution of the narcotics.

Legal Implications

Under the UAE’s stringent drug laws, the Onuha brothers face severe penalties if convicted, including potential prison sentences of up to 25 years. The UAE maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward drug-related offenses, with severe consequences for possession, distribution, and trafficking.

Public Reaction

The arrests have sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many expressing shock and dismay. Some users have questioned the legitimacy of the brothers’ wealth, while others have defended them, awaiting further information. The case has also raised concerns about the potential impact on the perception of expatriate communities in the UAE.

Current Status

As of now, the Onuha brothers remain in custody in Dubai, awaiting trial. The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs has acknowledged awareness of the arrests but stated that it has not been asked to provide legal assistance. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as the legal proceedings continue.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the severe consequences associated with drug-related offenses in the UAE and the importance of adhering to local laws and regulations.

Public Reaction: The arrests have triggered shock and debate on social media, with questions about the legitimacy of the brothers’ wealth.

Conclusion:

The arrest of Samuel and Reuben Onuha in Dubai on serious drug trafficking charges has shocked the public, particularly due to their high-profile presence on social media. As authorities continue their investigation, the brothers face the prospect of severe legal consequences under the UAE’s strict drug laws. The case serves as a stark reminder of the region’s zero-tolerance policy on narcotics and the potential repercussions of engaging in illegal activities. The outcome of the trial will determine the brothers’ fate, while the allegations have already cast a shadow over their luxurious public personas.

The Use of Bamboo for Torture in the 14th and 15th Centuries

Throughout history, various forms of torture have been used as tools of intimidation, punishment, and coercion. Among the most notorious methods was bamboo torture, which reportedly emerged in regions of Southeast Asia and was used as a gruesome form of execution or torment. While the practice is often shrouded in folklore and historical ambiguity, accounts suggest its use during the 14th and 15th centuries.

Man suffered not only physically but also mentally, knowing they were being slowly impaled by the growing bamboo.

Bamboo torture relied on the natural growth of bamboo, one of the fastest-growing plants in the world. Under favorable conditions, bamboo can grow up to three feet per day. This extraordinary growth rate became a brutal weapon in the hands of torturers.

The victim was typically tied down horizontally above sharpened bamboo shoots that were just beginning to sprout. As the bamboo grew, its sharp tips would pierce through the victim’s body, slowly impaling them. This method inflicted excruciating pain and prolonged suffering, making bamboo torture a particularly horrifying form of punishment.

Historical Context and Accounts

While there is limited verified evidence of bamboo torture in historical records, several accounts suggest its use in regions like China, India, and Southeast Asia. It was believed to be used by local rulers or military forces to punish criminals, prisoners of war, or political dissidents.

Some European explorers and colonists in the 15th and 16th centuries reported witnessing or hearing of such practices. However, due to the lack of primary sources, it is difficult to separate historical fact from exaggerated tales. The accounts may have been sensationalized to depict foreign cultures as barbaric or cruel.

The Psychological Impact of Bamboo Torture

Beyond the physical suffering, bamboo torture was a form of psychological torment. Victims often experienced days of agony, with the constant knowledge that they were being impaled slowly by the relentless growth of bamboo. The fear of this method of execution also served as a deterrent, reinforcing authoritarian rule through fear and intimidation.

Conclusion

Bamboo torture remains one of the most chilling examples of how nature’s power can be weaponized against humanity. While some doubt the extent of its actual use, the concept alone has left a lasting impression in discussions of historical torture methods. It serves as a reminder of the dark capabilities of human cruelty and the enduring fascination with ancient punitive practices.

Key Points on Bamboo Torture

Method of Torture: Bamboo torture involved tying a victim above sharpened bamboo shoots, allowing the plant’s rapid growth to pierce and impale the body.

Growth Rate: Bamboo can grow up to three feet per day, making it a uniquely painful and slow form of torture.

Historical Context: Reports suggest bamboo torture was used in regions like China, India, and Southeast Asia during the 14th and 15th centuries.

Purpose: It was often used as a form of execution or punishment for criminals, prisoners of war, or political dissenters.

Psychological Impact: Victims suffered not only physically but also mentally, knowing they were being slowly impaled by the growing bamboo.

Historical Ambiguity: While stories of bamboo torture exist, limited primary evidence suggests some accounts may be exaggerated or used for propaganda.

Legacy: Bamboo torture is often cited as a chilling example of historical cruelty and has become a symbol of the darker aspects of human punishment.

Recall Alert: Allergy Medications Pulled from Market Due to Child Poisoning Risks

In recent developments, several allergy medications have been recalled due to packaging issues that pose poisoning risks to children. These recalls underscore the critical importance of child-resistant packaging in preventing accidental ingestions.

Acme United’s PhysiciansCare Recall

In May 2023, Acme United recalled approximately 2,400 units of its PhysiciansCare brand allergy relief and cold and cough tablets. The products, containing active ingredients like diphenhydramine hydrochloride and acetaminophen, were found to be in non-compliant packaging that failed to meet child-resistant standards mandated by the Poison Prevention Packaging Act (PPPA). This oversight posed a significant poisoning risk if young children accessed and ingested the medications. The affected products were sold exclusively on Amazon.com between January 2021 and August 2022, with prices ranging from $5 to $19.

Cabinet Health’s Refillable Medicine Bottles Recall

More recently, in February 2025, Cabinet Health issued a recall for its 4 oz. refillable medicine bottles. The plastic lids of these bottles were found to degrade after repeated use, diminishing their child-resistant effectiveness and increasing the risk of poisoning if the contents were ingested by children. This recall affected various medications, including their Allergy Relief containing Diphenhydramine HCl 25mg. The products were sold online through platforms like cabinethealth.com, Amazon.com, and Grove.co, as well as at CVS stores, from March 2023 through July 2024, priced between $10 and $20.

Safety Recommendations for Consumers

Immediate Action: Consumers possessing these recalled products should immediately store them out of children’s reach and contact the respective companies for refunds or replacement lids.

Secure Storage: Always store medications in their original, child-resistant packaging and keep them in locations inaccessible to children.

Proper Disposal: If a medication is recalled or expired, follow FDA guidelines or local regulations for safe disposal to prevent accidental ingestion.

Stay Informed: Regularly check for product recalls through official channels such as the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) or the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

These recalls highlight the necessity for manufacturers to adhere strictly to safety regulations, particularly concerning child-resistant packaging, to prevent accidental poisonings. Consumers are urged to remain vigilant about product safety announcements to ensure the well-being of their families.

Dear 222 News viewers, sponsored by smileband,

In a significant escalation of political tensions in Turkey, President Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan’s administration detained Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoÄŸlu, a leading opposition figure and potential presidential candidate. The arrest, conducted on charges of corruption and alleged links to terrorism, has sparked widespread domestic protests and international condemnation, raising concerns about the state of democracy in Turkey.

Background

Ekrem İmamoÄŸlu, a member of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), emerged as a prominent political figure after winning the Istanbul mayoral election in 2019. His victory was seen as a significant setback for ErdoÄŸan’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), given Istanbul’s strategic and symbolic importance. Since then, İmamoÄŸlu has been considered a leading contender to challenge ErdoÄŸan in the upcoming 2028 presidential election.

The Arrest

On March 19, 2025, Turkish authorities detained İmamoÄŸlu during a dawn raid, accusing him of corruption and alleged associations with terrorist organizations. Critics argue that these charges are politically motivated, aiming to eliminate ErdoÄŸan’s most formidable rival ahead of the elections. The arrest aligns with a broader pattern of crackdowns on opposition figures, journalists, and activists in Turkey.

Domestic Reactions

The detention has ignited widespread protests across Turkey, particularly in Istanbul and Ankara, despite government-imposed bans on demonstrations. The CHP has condemned the arrest as a “political coup,” asserting that it undermines the will of the people. Other opposition parties and civil society organizations have also criticized the move, expressing concerns over increasing authoritarianism and the erosion of democratic principles.

International Response

Internationally, the arrest has drawn sharp criticism. The Council of Europe condemned the detention as an action against the will of the people and announced plans to discuss the issue in an upcoming meeting. The German Foreign Ministry stated that the democratic process in Turkey had been harmed and expressed intentions to address the matter with Turkish officials. Human Rights Watch labeled the detentions as politically motivated, aimed at obstructing opposition activities.

Economic Implications

The political upheaval has adversely affected Turkey’s financial markets. Following İmamoÄŸlu’s arrest, the Turkish lira experienced its most significant drop since mid-2023, and the stock market saw substantial declines. Investors, previously encouraged by high interest rates and economic reforms, are now concerned about the country’s political stability and commitment to the rule of law.

Conclusion

The detention of Ekrem İmamoğlu represents a critical juncture in Turkish politics, highlighting deepening divisions and raising alarms about the future of democracy in the country. As protests continue and international scrutiny intensifies, the Erdoğan administration faces mounting pressure to address these concerns and uphold democratic norms.

Key Points:

Detention of Rival: Turkish authorities detained Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, a key opposition leader and potential challenger to President Erdoğan in the 2028 elections.

Charges: İmamoğlu faces accusations of corruption and alleged links to terrorism, though critics argue the charges are politically motivated.

Political Context: The arrest is seen as part of a broader crackdown on opposition figures in Turkey, reinforcing concerns about ErdoÄŸan’s authoritarian tendencies.

Public Response: Protests erupted across Turkey, particularly in Istanbul and Ankara, with opposition parties condemning the move as a political coup.

International Reaction: Countries and organizations, including the Council of Europe and Germany, condemned the arrest and raised concerns about democratic backsliding in Turkey.

Economic Impact: The Turkish lira and stock market suffered significant losses following the arrest, reflecting investor concerns over political instability.

Conclusion:

The arrest of Ekrem İmamoÄŸlu marks a significant escalation in Turkey’s political landscape, further highlighting concerns over the erosion of democratic institutions under President ErdoÄŸan’s rule. With widespread domestic protests and international condemnation, the government faces mounting pressure to justify its actions. The incident also raises uncertainties about the country’s political and economic stability, with potential long-term repercussions for Turkey’s international standing and investor confidence. As the situation unfolds, the resilience of Turkey’s opposition and civil society will likely play a crucial role in shaping the nation’s future political direction.

Abdulla Alfalasi: Mastermind Behind UK’s £100 Million Money Laundering Operation

Abdulla Alfalasi, a key player in one of the UK’s most extensive money laundering operations, orchestrated a sophisticated network of couriers to smuggle vast sums of cash from Britain to Dubai. Using unsuspecting or complicit individuals as mules, Alfalasi’s criminal enterprise laundered an estimated £100 million over a period of months before it was dismantled by authorities.

The Operation Unveiled

The scheme, which came to light in 2022, saw dozens of couriers board flights from the UK to Dubai, each carrying hundreds of thousands of pounds in vacuum-sealed bags. The illicit funds, believed to be proceeds of drug trafficking and other criminal activities, were disguised as legitimate wealth using false documentation.

The couriers, often paid thousands of pounds per trip, were instructed to declare the money upon arrival in Dubai, exploiting the UAE’s lax financial regulations. Once in Dubai, the cash would be integrated into the financial system through various means, making it difficult to trace its origins.

Abdulla Alfalasi’s Role

A Dubai-based businessman, Alfalasi was identified as the ringleader of the operation. He established a network of facilitators in the UK to recruit and manage the couriers, while others in Dubai oversaw the receipt and laundering of the funds. His extensive connections and deep understanding of international finance allowed him to operate under the radar for a significant period.

Authorities believe that Alfalasi’s operation may have laundered far more than the estimated £100 million, with additional sums potentially hidden across international accounts. His criminal empire was characterized by its organized structure and the use of encrypted communications to evade detection.

The Crackdown

The National Crime Agency (NCA) launched a major investigation into the network, leading to Alfalasi’s arrest and subsequent sentencing. In 2022, he was handed a lengthy prison term after admitting to his role in the money laundering scheme. Several of his couriers and associates were also arrested and prosecuted, with authorities vowing to seize any remaining assets linked to the criminal operation.

The Impact and Lessons Learned

The case has highlighted the vulnerabilities in international financial systems and the ease with which large sums of money can be moved across borders. It also underscored the importance of cooperation between global law enforcement agencies in tackling transnational crime.

Moving forward, regulators are expected to tighten financial controls and enhance scrutiny of large cash movements. Additionally, further investigations are underway to uncover any remaining elements of Alfalasi’s network.

The downfall of Abdulla Alfalasi serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of financial crime and the determination of authorities to bring perpetrators to justice.

Key Points on Abdulla Alfalasi’s Money Laundering Operation

Ringleader: Abdulla Alfalasi masterminded a £100 million money laundering scheme using couriers to smuggle cash from the UK to Dubai.

Method: Mules transported large sums of cash in vacuum-sealed bags on commercial flights, exploiting weak financial controls.

Declaration in Dubai: The money was falsely declared as legitimate wealth upon arrival in Dubai to integrate it into the financial system.

Network: Alfalasi recruited and managed couriers through a well-structured criminal network using encrypted communication.

Law Enforcement Response: The National Crime Agency (NCA) led the investigation, resulting in Alfalasi’s arrest and conviction in 2022.

Sentencing: Alfalasi received a substantial prison sentence for his role, with multiple couriers and accomplices also prosecuted.

Global Impact: The case exposed vulnerabilities in international financial systems and emphasized the need for stricter regulations and global cooperation to combat money laundering.

Conclusion

The downfall of Abdulla Alfalasi marks a significant victory in the global fight against financial crime. His elaborate money laundering scheme exposed the vulnerabilities within international financial systems and highlighted the urgent need for stricter regulations and increased cross-border collaboration. While Alfalasi and several of his associates are now facing the consequences of their actions, authorities remain vigilant in tracking down any remaining assets and dismantling similar criminal networks. The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of money laundering and the relentless pursuit of justice by law enforcement agencies worldwide.

Smileband News

Dear 222 News viewers, sponsored by smileband,

Santander Bank has announced plans to close 95 of its 444 branches across the UK, a decision that places approximately 750 jobs at risk. This move is part of the bank’s strategy to adapt to the evolving banking landscape, where customer preferences are increasingly shifting towards digital platforms.

Reasons for the Closures

The primary driver behind these closures is the significant rise in digital banking usage. Since 2019, Santander has observed a 63% increase in digital transactions and a 56% rise in mobile banking users. Conversely, transactions conducted within physical branches have seen a corresponding decline, making some locations less viable to maintain.

Impact on Services and Employees

Beyond the branch closures, Santander plans to reduce services or operating hours in over 50 additional branches. Furthermore, 18 branches are set to transition to “counter-free” models, focusing on digital services and self-service options. To support customers who may be affected by these changes, the bank intends to introduce “community bankers” who will provide face-to-face assistance at the modified locations.

The restructuring poses potential redundancies for around 750 employees. Santander has stated that it is consulting with employee unions and will offer support to affected staff, including assistance in finding new roles within the bank.

Broader Industry Context

Santander’s decision aligns with a broader trend in the banking industry, where institutions are reevaluating their physical footprints in response to the digital shift. For instance, Lloyds Banking Group recently announced the closure of 136 branches within the same timeframe. This pattern reflects the industry’s efforts to balance operational efficiency with the changing preferences of customers who increasingly favor online and mobile banking solutions.

In summary, Santander’s branch closures are a strategic response to the rapid adoption of digital banking services. While these changes aim to align the bank’s resources with customer behavior, they also underscore the challenges faced by employees and communities accustomed to traditional banking models.

Key Points on Santander Bank’s UK Branch Closures:

1. Branch Closures: Santander is closing 95 of its 444 UK branches, putting around 750 jobs at risk.

2. Reasons: The closures are driven by a 63% increase in digital transactions and a 56% rise in mobile banking users since 2019, leading to a sharp decline in in-person branch usage.

3. Service Changes: Some remaining branches will have reduced operating hours, while 18 branches will become “counter-free” with a focus on digital services.

4. Employee Impact: Around 750 employees are at risk of redundancy, though Santander has committed to supporting affected staff through consultations and redeployment opportunities.

5. Customer Support: Santander will introduce “community bankers” to offer face-to-face assistance at certain locations to maintain service levels.

6. Industry Trend: The decision aligns with a wider banking sector trend, with other banks like Lloyds also closing branches as digital banking becomes more dominant.

In conclusion, Santander’s decision to close 95 branches across the UK reflects the ongoing shift towards digital banking. While this move aims to streamline operations and meet the changing preferences of customers, it also highlights the challenges faced by employees and communities reliant on in-person services. As the banking landscape continues to evolve, it will be essential for institutions to balance technological advancements with accessible financial support, ensuring that all customers — especially those less comfortable with digital platforms — remain well-served.

Smileband News

Dear 222 News viewers, sponsored by smileband,

In a controversial move that has sparked legal and ethical debates, the Trump administration recently deported over 200 Venezuelan nationals to El Salvador, despite a federal court order temporarily halting such actions.

Background

On Saturday, President Donald Trump invoked the Alien Enemies Act of 1798—a statute traditionally reserved for wartime scenarios—to facilitate the rapid deportation of individuals alleged to be members of the Venezuelan gang, Tren de Aragua. This group has been implicated in various criminal activities, including kidnapping and extortion.

In response to the administration’s actions, U.S. District Judge James Boasberg issued a temporary restraining order to halt the deportations. However, by the time the order was issued, two planes carrying the deportees were already en route to El Salvador. The administration proceeded with the deportations, asserting that once the flights had departed U.S. airspace, they were beyond the court’s jurisdiction.

Legal Implications

The administration’s decision to continue with the deportations despite the court order has raised significant legal concerns. Judge Boasberg has demanded a detailed account of the timeline of events, including the exact departure and arrival times of the flights, to assess compliance with his order. Legal experts warn that the administration’s defiance could precipitate a constitutional crisis, challenging the balance of powers between the executive branch and the judiciary.

Administration’s Stance

Tom Homan, the administration’s ‘border czar,’ has publicly stated that deportations will continue unabated, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to national security. He dismissed the court’s order, asserting that it does not supersede the president’s authority under the Alien Enemies Act.

International Response

The deported individuals have been transferred to a high-security facility in El Salvador. The Salvadoran government has confirmed that among the deportees are members of the Tren de Aragua and MS-13 gangs, accused of serious crimes.

Conclusion

The deportation of Venezuelan nationals despite a federal court order underscores the escalating tensions between the Trump administration and the judiciary. As legal proceedings continue, the situation highlights the complex interplay between national security concerns and the rule of law, with potential long-term implications for U.S. governance and its adherence to constitutional checks and balances.
