Japan Plans to Build Record-Breaking Gas Power Plant in Ohio in $36 Billion Energy Deal

Japan is preparing to invest billions of dollars in the United States’ energy sector, including plans to build what could become the largest natural-gas power plant in U.S. history in the state of Ohio. The massive project is part of a broader $36 billion investment package agreed between the governments of the Japan and the United States.

The centerpiece of the deal is a $33 billion natural-gas power facility planned near Portsmouth in the state of Ohio, which would generate an enormous 9.2 gigawatts of electricity once completed. That capacity would make it the largest gas-fired power plant ever built in the United States, far surpassing existing plants across the country.

A Strategic Energy Partnership

The investment forms part of a much larger $550 billion U.S.–Japan investment framework aimed at strengthening economic and energy cooperation between the two nations. The initial $36 billion package will fund three major industrial projects across several U.S. states.

Besides the Ohio gas facility, the agreement also includes:

A $2.1 billion deep-water oil export terminal off the coast of Texas.

A $600 million synthetic diamond manufacturing plant in Georgia used for industrial and semiconductor production.

Officials say the energy investments are designed to boost U.S. industrial capacity while strengthening supply chains for advanced manufacturing and energy infrastructure.

SoftBank’s Role in the Mega Plant

The Ohio project will be developed and operated by SB Energy, a subsidiary of the Japanese investment giant SoftBank Group.

Once operational, the plant will produce enough electricity to power millions of homes and major industries, making Ohio a key hub for America’s next generation of energy infrastructure.

Powering the AI Economy

One reason for the massive scale of the plant is the rapid rise in electricity demand, particularly from data centres supporting artificial intelligence and cloud computing. These facilities require constant, reliable power, making natural gas an attractive option for large-scale “baseload” electricity generation.

U.S. officials say projects like this could help stabilize the national grid as electricity consumption rises sharply over the next decade.

Economic Impact

Supporters of the deal argue that the construction of the mega-plant will bring thousands of construction jobs and long-term employment opportunities to southern Ohio. The investment is also expected to stimulate additional infrastructure development and attract energy-intensive industries to the region.

The Ohio plant represents the largest single component of Japan’s $36 billion investment package, signaling Tokyo’s growing role in shaping the future of U.S. energy production and industrial development.

If completed as planned, the facility could become one of the most powerful gas-fired electricity plants in the world, marking a major milestone in the energy partnership between the United States and Japan.

Teen Arrested After $7 Million Cocaine Seizure in Toronto

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested after police seized 325 kilograms of cocaine valued at more than $7 million during a major drug investigation in Toronto, in what authorities say is one of the largest drug busts in the history of the Durham Regional Police Service.

Investigators from the police force’s Drug Enforcement Unit concluded the investigation on February 23, 2026, when they took the teenager into custody on suspicion of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Following the arrest, officers executed a search warrant at a facility in Toronto, where they discovered a massive cache of cocaine. During the search, police located and seized 325 kilograms of the drug, with an estimated street value exceeding $7 million.

Authorities described the seizure as one of the largest drug hauls ever recorded by the force, highlighting the scale of the trafficking operation that investigators believe may involve a broader network.

Because the suspect is under the age of 18, Canadian law prevents police from releasing his identity. Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, minors accused of crimes cannot be publicly named in order to protect their privacy during legal proceedings.

Police have not yet disclosed how the teenager allegedly became connected to such a large quantity of cocaine, and investigators are continuing to examine whether other individuals or organized crime groups may be linked to the seizure.

Authorities are also urging members of the public with information about the case or similar drug trafficking activity to contact the Drug Enforcement Unit or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.

The investigation remains ongoing, and further arrests or charges could follow as police work to trace the origin and distribution network behind the massive drug shipment.

If you want, I can also write a longer investigative-style version of this article (like a newspaper feature explaining how a teenager could end up connected to a $7 million drug operation).

12-Year-Old Boy Builds Experimental Nuclear Fusion Machine at Home

A 12-year-old boy has stunned scientists and educators after successfully building a working experimental nuclear fusion device from parts assembled in his home laboratory, demonstrating an extraordinary level of scientific curiosity and engineering skill at such a young age.

The young inventor, fascinated with physics and energy science, reportedly spent months researching how fusion reactors work before attempting to build a small device known as a fusor. A fusor is a type of experimental apparatus designed to create the conditions necessary for Nuclear Fusion, the same process that powers the Sun.

How the machine works

Unlike large-scale fusion reactors under development around the world, the boy’s device is a table-top fusor designed to demonstrate the basic physics behind fusion. The machine uses a vacuum chamber and high-voltage electricity to accelerate particles toward each other. When those particles collide under the right conditions, they can fuse together and release energy.

Scientists have been pursuing fusion power for decades because it has the potential to produce huge amounts of energy without the long-term radioactive waste associated with traditional nuclear fission reactors.

Large international projects are currently trying to achieve controlled fusion on a commercial scale, including the massive reactor being built at ITER in southern France.

A remarkable achievement

Although small fusors do not produce usable energy, building one requires an understanding of advanced topics such as vacuum engineering, plasma physics, and high-voltage electrical systems—subjects usually studied at university level.

Experts say the achievement highlights the growing number of young innovators learning complex science through online research, open-source designs, and science communities.

“Building a working fusor is extremely challenging even for experienced hobbyists,” one physics educator said. “For someone at 12 years old to successfully assemble one shows exceptional dedication and talent.”

Safety concerns and supervision

Despite the excitement around the achievement, experts stress that nuclear experiments must be conducted with strict safety precautions and adult supervision. Fusors can produce radiation and involve high voltages, meaning safety training and proper equipment are essential.

Many young experimenters interested in fusion are encouraged to pursue their work through school laboratories, universities, or supervised science programs where safety standards can be maintained.

Inspiring the next generation of scientists

The story has quickly attracted attention online, inspiring other young students interested in physics, engineering, and energy technology.

With governments and research institutions investing billions in fusion energy research, breakthroughs from large projects like ITER could still take years. However, stories like this show how the next generation of scientists may already be developing the curiosity and skills needed to solve one of humanity’s biggest energy challenges.

US Air Force Soldier Honoured After Pregnancy During Overseas Deployment

A United States Air Force service member has been honourably dismissed after becoming pregnant while deployed overseas, an incident that has once again highlighted the complicated rules surrounding relationships and pregnancy in active military service.

According to military officials, the soldier had been serving on an overseas assignment connected to operations in the Middle East when the pregnancy was discovered. Because of strict operational rules, pregnancies during certain deployments can lead to a service member being removed from active duty in the combat zone and sent home.

Military rules on pregnancy during deployment

The U.S. military requires personnel assigned to high-risk or remote deployments to meet strict medical and readiness standards. When a service member becomes pregnant while deployed, they are usually redeployed back to their home country or reassigned for medical care and safety reasons.

Pregnancy can affect the ability to carry out duties in combat or operational environments, particularly where medical facilities are limited or where exposure to dangerous conditions could harm the mother or unborn child.

Historically, the rules were even stricter. Until the mid-1970s, women in the U.S. military were often automatically discharged if they became pregnant, a policy widely criticized as discriminatory and later reformed.

Today, pregnant service members can continue their careers, but deployments and certain operational duties are typically restricted for medical and safety reasons.

Honourable discharge decision

In this case, the service member reportedly chose to leave the armed forces following the discovery of the pregnancy. Military officials confirmed that she received an honourable discharge, meaning her service record was considered satisfactory and she left the military in good standing.

An honourable discharge allows veterans to retain most benefits, including healthcare access through the Department of Veterans Affairs, educational support programs, and eligibility for certain veteran services.

A growing discussion inside the military

Situations like this continue to spark debate within the armed forces. Some argue that strict deployment policies are necessary to maintain readiness and operational effectiveness, while others believe more flexibility should be introduced to support service members starting families.

Recent policy changes have attempted to strike that balance by expanding maternity leave and allowing some pregnant aircrew and personnel to continue certain duties under medical supervision.

For the former Air Force soldier involved, the decision marks the end of a military career but the beginning of a new chapter. Officials thanked her for her service, stating that her honourable dismissal reflects her contribution to the U.S. armed forces despite the unexpected circumstances.

Red Bull Rumoured to Be Developing Drink Designed to Help People Sleep for 12 Hours

Energy drink giant Red Bull is reportedly exploring a surprising new direction: a beverage designed to help people fall asleep and stay asleep for up to 12 hours straight.

The Austrian brand is best known for its famous slogan “Red Bull gives you wings,” promoting alertness and energy. However, insiders say the company is now looking at entering the rapidly growing sleep-aid drink market, targeting people who struggle with insomnia, stress, and irregular sleep schedules.

A Shift from Energy to Rest

For decades, Red Bull has dominated the energy drink industry with products packed with caffeine and stimulants designed to boost focus and performance. A typical can contains about 80 mg of caffeine, roughly the same as a cup of coffee.

But research has increasingly linked energy drinks to sleep disruption and insomnia, particularly among younger adults. Studies show people who consume them frequently often sleep less and have more trouble falling asleep than those who rarely drink them.

Industry analysts say this may be part of the reason companies are now exploring the opposite side of the market—products that promote rest instead of stimulation.

What the Sleep Drink Could Contain

While Red Bull has not publicly confirmed the exact formula, reports suggest the proposed drink could include ingredients commonly used in sleep beverages, such as:

Melatonin, a hormone that regulates the body’s sleep cycle

Magnesium, known to help relax muscles and nerves

L-theanine, an amino acid associated with calmness

Herbal extracts like chamomile or valerian root

These ingredients are often used in supplements designed to encourage deeper and longer sleep.

A Growing Global Market

Demand for sleep products has surged in recent years as people deal with stress, shift work, and increased screen time before bed. The global sleep-aid market—including drinks, supplements, and devices—is now worth billions of dollars annually.

If Red Bull launches a sleep drink, it would put the company into direct competition with brands producing “relaxation” or “night-time” beverages aimed at helping consumers unwind.

Critics Raise Concerns

Health experts say the concept may sound appealing, but it also raises questions. Some worry about a brand traditionally associated with stimulants suddenly marketing a product promising 12 hours of sleep, particularly if people begin using it regularly rather than addressing underlying sleep problems.

Medical specialists generally recommend good sleep habits—such as limiting caffeine, reducing screen time, and maintaining consistent bedtimes—before relying on sleep aids.

From “Wings” to “Dreams”?

If the drink becomes reality, it would mark one of the most unusual pivots in the beverage industry: a company famous for keeping people awake now selling something designed to knock them out for the night.

For now, the idea remains speculative, but if Red Bull moves forward, consumers may soon see a product that promises not wings—but a full night’s sleep.

Trump Says UK “Turning Up to a War Already Won” Amid Global Tensions

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has sparked controversy after claiming that the United Kingdom is “turning up to a war that has already been won,” in remarks that appeared to criticise Britain’s approach to international military involvement.

Speaking during a campaign-style rally in the United States, Trump suggested that the UK government had been slow to respond to escalating global conflicts and was now attempting to assert influence after key decisions had already been made by Washington.

Trump told supporters that American leadership had already secured the strategic outcome of the conflict in question, arguing that allies were now arriving too late to play a meaningful role. “The United Kingdom is showing up to a war that has already been won,” he said, implying that Britain was attempting to take part in the political aftermath rather than the decisive military stages.

The comments are likely to create tension between Trump and British political leaders, including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, as the United Kingdom remains one of the United States’ closest defence partners through the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Historically, the UK and US have worked closely in major military operations, from the Iraq War to the War in Afghanistan, with British forces often among the largest allied contributors to American-led missions. Trump’s remark therefore represents a sharp departure from the traditional rhetoric surrounding the “special relationship” between the two countries.

Political analysts say the statement reflects Trump’s long-standing belief that U.S. allies rely too heavily on American military power while contributing comparatively less to global security operations. During his presidency, he repeatedly urged NATO members to increase defence spending and questioned whether the United States should continue carrying the bulk of the alliance’s costs.

Critics of Trump’s comments argue that Britain remains a significant military power and one of the few NATO members capable of deploying forces globally. Supporters, however, say the remark underscores a broader frustration among some American voters about foreign allies benefiting from U.S. security guarantees.

It remains unclear which specific conflict Trump was referencing, though the remarks come amid heightened geopolitical tensions involving Iran and ongoing military cooperation between Western allies.

Diplomatic experts warn that rhetoric questioning allied contributions could complicate relations between Washington and London if Trump returns to the White House, potentially reshaping how the two countries coordinate on security and defence in the future.

Herpes: How the Common Virus Spreads and Affects People’s Health

Herpes is a common viral infection that affects millions of people worldwide. Caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus, the condition is highly contagious and can spread through close physical contact. While many people with the virus may experience mild symptoms or none at all, herpes can still have significant effects on a person’s physical health and emotional wellbeing.

What Is Herpes?

Herpes is primarily caused by two types of the herpes simplex virus:

Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 – usually responsible for oral herpes, commonly known as cold sores.

Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2 – most commonly associated with genital herpes.

Both types can infect the mouth or genital area, depending on how the virus is transmitted.

How Herpes Spreads

Herpes spreads easily through direct contact with an infected person. The virus can be passed through:

Kissing someone who has a cold sore

Oral, vaginal, or anal sexual contact

Skin-to-skin contact with an infected area

Sharing personal items such as razors or lip products in rare cases

A key concern is that herpes can be transmitted even when symptoms are not visible. This occurs through viral shedding, where the virus is present on the skin without causing obvious sores.

Symptoms of Herpes

Symptoms can vary widely. Some people experience painful outbreaks, while others may never realize they are infected. Common symptoms include:

Blisters or sores around the mouth, lips, genitals, or anus

Tingling or burning sensations before an outbreak

Pain during urination (in genital infections)

Fever, body aches, and swollen glands during the first outbreak

The first outbreak is usually the most severe. After that, the virus remains dormant in the body and can reactivate periodically.

Long-Term Health Effects

Although herpes is not usually life-threatening, it is a lifelong infection. Once someone becomes infected, the virus stays in the body permanently. Recurring outbreaks can occur, often triggered by stress, illness, or fatigue.

For most healthy adults, the physical symptoms can be managed with antiviral medications such as Acyclovir, Valacyclovir, or Famciclovir, which help reduce symptoms and lower the risk of spreading the virus.

However, herpes can pose more serious risks for certain groups. Newborn babies exposed during childbirth can develop Neonatal herpes, a rare but potentially severe condition. People with weakened immune systems may also experience more frequent or severe outbreaks.

Emotional and Social Impact

Beyond the physical symptoms, herpes can also affect mental health. The stigma surrounding sexually transmitted infections often causes anxiety, embarrassment, or depression among those diagnosed.

Health experts emphasize that herpes is extremely common. According to global health data, billions of people carry HSV-1, and hundreds of millions live with HSV-2.

Prevention and Awareness

While there is currently no cure for herpes, the spread of the virus can be reduced through precautions such as:

Avoiding contact during outbreaks

Using protection such as condoms during sexual activity

Taking antiviral medication if prescribed

Being open with partners about infection status

Public health officials stress that education and awareness are key to reducing transmission and helping people manage the condition responsibly.

In summary, herpes is a widespread and highly contagious virus that can affect anyone. Although it is a lifelong infection, modern treatments and preventive measures allow most people to live normal, healthy lives while managing the condition.

Teen Who Stabbed Man 12 Times in Deptford Fled to Nigeria

A teenager who brutally stabbed a young man 12 times on a street in Deptford, south-east London, attempted to escape justice by fleeing to Nigeria, before eventually being caught and jailed for life.

The attacker, 19-year-old Jackson Uwagboe, was convicted of murdering 21-year-old Robert Robinson in what prosecutors described as a “brutal and sustained” knife attack. The killing happened on 6 June 2024 on Carteret Way in Deptford, after a dispute linked to a stolen bicycle escalated into deadly violence.

Dispute Turned Deadly

According to evidence presented at the Old Bailey, the conflict began earlier that day when Uwagboe robbed a 17-year-old boy of his bicycle and phone on Deptford High Street. A group including Robinson later went to a friend’s home connected to Uwagboe to try to retrieve the bike.

After tensions escalated, Uwagboe and two associates armed themselves with machetes and confronted Robinson’s group in the street. During the attack, Robinson was stabbed at least 12 times, suffering defensive wounds as he attempted to protect himself. Paramedics were called but he died at the scene.

Attempted Escape to Nigeria

In the aftermath of the killing, Uwagboe attempted to flee the UK. An accomplice purchased a £1,100 plane ticket to Lagos, Nigeria, and drove him to Heathrow Airport in a bid to help him escape prosecution.

However, the escape only delayed the investigation. After months abroad, Uwagboe was arrested at Gatwick Airport in February 2025 when he returned to Britain. Detectives had built a strong case using CCTV footage, phone records, bank data and DNA evidence linking the suspects to the murder.

Life Sentence

In February 2026, Uwagboe was sentenced at the Old Bailey to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 21 years before he can be considered for parole.

Two other teenagers involved in the attack also received life sentences for their roles in the murder, while the man who helped arrange the flight to Nigeria was convicted of perverting the course of justice.

Police Statement

Detectives described the attack as a savage act of violence carried out by a group armed with knives. They praised the extensive investigation that ensured those responsible were eventually brought to justice despite attempts to flee the country.

The case has once again highlighted the ongoing problem of knife crime in London, particularly among young offenders.

Dear 222 News viewers, sponsored by smileband,

A prominent Miami real estate developer has been charged with orchestrating a massive fraud scheme worth roughly £85 million ($85 million), according to U.S. federal prosecutors.

The accused, Rishi Kapoor, 41, was indicted in federal court after authorities alleged he misused tens of millions of dollars raised from investors while running the Miami-based property company Location Ventures.

Alleged $85 Million Fraud

Prosecutors say Kapoor raised approximately $85 million from investors to fund several luxury real-estate projects across South Florida, including developments in Coral Gables, Coconut Grove, Miami Beach, and Fort Lauderdale.

However, investigators claim many of the promised projects were never completed or even built. Instead, Kapoor allegedly diverted large portions of investor money for personal spending.

Federal prosecutors say the funds were used to finance a lavish lifestyle, including the purchase of a 68-foot luxury yacht and other expensive items.

Additional Charges

The indictment also accuses Kapoor of:

Wire fraud and conspiracy related to misleading investors.

Tax evasion, including failing to pay millions in personal taxes.

Withholding payroll taxes from employees but not sending them to the IRS, effectively keeping the money for himself.

Authorities claim he misrepresented his own financial investment in the company, telling investors he had contributed around $13 million, when investigators believe the amount was far lower.

What Happens Next

The case will now proceed through the U.S. federal court system in the Southern District of Florida. If convicted on the charges, Kapoor could face significant prison time and financial penalties.

Federal prosecutors emphasised that the allegations involve misusing investor funds intended for real-estate development, stressing that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

Growing Scrutiny of Property Investment Schemes

The case highlights increasing scrutiny of high-value real-estate investment schemes in South Florida, a region known for rapid development and large flows of international investment. Prosecutors say the case serves as a warning that misuse of investor funds and financial deception will be aggressively pursued.

Dear 222 News viewers, sponsored by smileband,

A dramatic scene unfolded on Capitol Hill this week when a U.S. Marine veteran interrupted a Senate hearing to protest the growing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. The incident quickly escalated into a physical confrontation that left the protester injured and under arrest, highlighting the rising political tensions surrounding the war.

Protest erupts inside Senate hearing

The disruption occurred during a hearing of the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee in Washington, where lawmakers were discussing military readiness and the ongoing conflict with Iran.

The protester, identified as former Marine and firefighter Brian McGinnis, stood up during the session and began shouting against U.S. involvement in the war. Witnesses reported that he yelled:

“America does not want to send its sons and daughters to war for Israel.”

The outburst shocked lawmakers and forced security officers to intervene almost immediately.

Physical struggle and broken arm

Officers from the U.S. Capitol Police attempted to remove McGinnis from the hearing room. However, he resisted and grabbed onto a doorway while being dragged toward the exit.

During the struggle, Republican senator Tim Sheehy, a former Navy SEAL, stepped in to help officers remove the protester. In the chaos, McGinnis’ arm became wedged in the door frame and was broken as authorities tried to pull him free.

Video of the confrontation circulating online reportedly captured the moment his arm snapped, with people in the room shouting that he had been injured.

Three Capitol Police officers were also treated for injuries following the scuffle.

Arrest and criminal charges

After being removed from the hearing, McGinnis was arrested and now faces several charges, including:

Assaulting a police officer

Resisting arrest

Unlawful demonstration

Obstructing a public passage

Authorities stated that the protester “violently resisted” attempts to remove him from the room and created a dangerous situation during the hearing.

Political and public reaction

The confrontation has sparked debate across the United States about both the war and the response to the protest.

Supporters of McGinnis argue that the incident demonstrates growing public frustration with U.S. involvement in the Middle East conflict. Critics, however, say disrupting an official Senate hearing crossed the line and endangered others in the room.

Senator Sheehy later said he intervened to help de-escalate the situation, stating that the protester had come to the Capitol “looking for a confrontation.”

A wider debate over the Iran conflict

The protest comes as tensions escalate following joint U.S. and Israeli military strikes against Iran, a campaign that has already triggered political divisions in Washington and protests across the country.

For many observers, the chaotic scene in the Senate hearing room reflects the deep divisions in the United States over the war — not only among politicians but also among veterans and members of the public.

As the conflict abroad intensifies, incidents like this suggest the political battle at home may only be beginning.
