Stabbing Outside Birmingham School Sparks Alarm in Local Community

A shocking stabbing outside a primary school in Birmingham has raised fresh concerns about public safety, particularly in areas close to schools and young children.

The incident took place on Bridge Road in the Alum Rock area on 3 March 2026, just after midday. Emergency services, including armed officers, rushed to the scene following multiple 999 calls reporting a violent attack near a school.  

Fatal Attack Near School Grounds

Police confirmed that a 30-year-old man, named as Ali Alshmari, suffered fatal stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman in her 50s was also injured during the incident but was later treated and discharged from hospital.  

The attack happened close to a primary school, prompting immediate safety measures. Nearby educational facilities were placed into lockdown as a precaution while officers secured the area and began their investigation.  

Arrest and Charges

A 32-year-old man was quickly arrested in connection with the incident. He has since been charged with murder and attempted murder and remanded in custody ahead of a court appearance.  

Detectives have appealed for witnesses and additional footage, stating that information from the public has already played a key role in progressing the case.

Community Impact

The stabbing has caused understandable concern among parents and residents, particularly given its proximity to a school. Police have stepped up patrols in the area and engaged with the local community to offer reassurance.

Authorities have emphasised that the incident is not being treated as terrorism-related, but the scale of the response highlights the seriousness of the situation.
