Trump Taps Tech Titans for Science Council — But Musk’s Absence Raises Eyebrows

In a move aimed at strengthening America’s technological edge, former President Donald Trump is reported to have assembled a high-profile science and technology advisory council featuring some of Silicon Valley’s most influential figures. Among those named are Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Nvidia chief Jensen Huang, and Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison—each a heavyweight in fields ranging from artificial intelligence to data infrastructure.

The formation of such a council signals a renewed focus on innovation, particularly in areas like AI, semiconductor development, and digital communications. Huang’s leadership at Nvidia places him at the centre of the global AI boom, while Ellison’s long-standing role in enterprise software and cloud computing offers deep experience in data systems. Zuckerberg, meanwhile, brings insight into social platforms, virtual reality, and the evolving relationship between technology and society.

However, one notable omission has sparked widespread discussion: Elon Musk.

Musk, the CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and X (formerly Twitter), is arguably one of the most prominent and controversial figures in modern technology. His ventures span electric vehicles, space exploration, artificial intelligence, and satellite communications—areas that closely align with the council’s apparent focus. His absence has therefore led to speculation about the reasoning behind the decision.

Several factors may explain why Musk was not included. One possibility is his increasingly independent and unpredictable public stance on political and technological issues. Musk has frequently clashed with both political parties and regulatory bodies, often voicing opinions that diverge sharply from mainstream policy directions. For a formal advisory council, consistency and alignment with broader governmental goals may be seen as essential.

Another consideration could be potential conflicts of interest. Musk’s companies operate in sectors heavily influenced by government contracts and regulation—particularly SpaceX, which works closely with NASA and the U.S. Department of Defense. Including him in a policy-shaping body could raise questions about impartiality.

There is also the matter of working style. Musk is known for his hands-on, high-intensity approach and tendency to operate outside traditional frameworks. By contrast, advisory councils typically function through structured collaboration and consensus-building—an environment that may not align with Musk’s leadership style.

Despite his exclusion, Musk’s influence on science and technology policy remains significant. His companies continue to shape industries critical to national interests, from renewable energy to space infrastructure. Whether formally involved or not, his voice is likely to remain part of the broader conversation.

The council’s final composition suggests a deliberate effort to balance innovation with stability—bringing together leaders who not only drive technological progress but also operate comfortably within institutional structures. Still, Musk’s absence serves as a reminder that influence in the tech world does not always translate into a seat at the policy table.

Luxury Dubai Hotel Hit During Iran Strikes as War Escalates

A luxury five-star hotel in Dubai was caught up in the widening Iran conflict after being struck during a wave of missile and drone attacks targeting the Gulf region.

The Fairmont The Palm, located on Dubai’s iconic Palm Jumeirah, was hit on 28 February 2026 as Iran launched retaliatory strikes following US and Israeli military action.

Witnesses reported explosions in the area before a fire broke out inside the beachfront resort, sending smoke billowing into the sky and prompting an urgent response from emergency services.

Fire and Injuries Reported

Officials confirmed that the strike caused a significant blaze at the hotel, with at least four people injured.

Early reports suggest the damage may have been caused either by a direct missile strike or falling debris from intercepted projectiles, as UAE air defence systems attempted to neutralise incoming threats.

Emergency crews were quickly deployed to the scene, and the fire was later brought under control.

Part of Wider Regional Attacks

The incident formed part of a much broader Iranian offensive that saw missiles and drones launched across multiple countries in the Middle East, including the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Israel.

Dubai—long seen as one of the safest and most stable cities in the region—was shaken by the attack, with additional damage reported near key landmarks and infrastructure.

Other locations in the UAE also experienced disruption, including temporary airport closures and civilian casualties caused by falling debris.

Shock to a Global Tourism Hub

The Fairmont The Palm is one of Dubai’s best-known luxury resorts, featuring hundreds of rooms and a prime beachfront location.

The attack has raised concerns about the vulnerability of high-profile tourist destinations as the conflict spreads beyond traditional war zones.

Analysts say the strike signals a dangerous escalation, with Gulf nations increasingly at risk of being drawn deeper into the conflict.

Rising Tensions

The UAE condemned the attacks, while Iran has stated its actions were in retaliation for earlier strikes on its territory. The situation remains volatile, with fears of further escalation across the region.

For residents and tourists in Dubai, the incident marked a stark reminder that even the world’s most luxurious and seemingly secure destinations are not immune to the effects of war.

Murder Investigation Launched After 26-Year-Old Shot Dead in Euston

A 26-year-old man has been shot dead while sitting inside a car near Euston station in central London, in what police have described as a targeted and shocking attack.

Emergency services were called to Chalton Street at around 11pm on Saturday night following reports of gunfire. Despite the rapid response of paramedics, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that the man was inside a white Nissan Juke when a suspect approached and opened fire, discharging multiple shots before fleeing the area.

Suspect fled on a bike

Investigators say CCTV footage shows the gunman arriving and leaving the scene on a bicycle, raising concerns over the calculated nature of the attack. A large-scale manhunt is now underway as detectives work to identify and locate the suspect.

Forensic teams quickly sealed off the area, with police maintaining a cordon into the following day as evidence was gathered. The killing has sent shockwaves through the local community, particularly given Euston’s busy and central location.

Police appeal for information

Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke, who is leading the investigation, urged the public to come forward with any information that could assist officers. She acknowledged the concern the incident will cause and reassured residents that police are working urgently to bring the perpetrator to justice.

The victim’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Iran Launches Damaging Attacks on Israel as Conflict Escalates

Iran has carried out a series of damaging missile and drone attacks on Israel, marking a sharp escalation in an already volatile conflict that has gripped the Middle East since late February 2026.

The strikes come as part of a wider war between Iran and a U.S.-Israel alliance, triggered by large-scale airstrikes on Iranian military and nuclear infrastructure. In response, Iran unleashed waves of ballistic missiles and drones targeting Israeli cities and strategic sites.

Missiles Strike Cities and Key Infrastructure

Recent Iranian attacks have hit multiple locations across Israel, causing casualties and significant damage. Missile strikes on cities such as Tel Aviv have killed civilians and injured dozens, with residential buildings among those hit.

In southern Israel, a major industrial facility was struck in one of the latest હુમો, sparking a large fire and destroying parts of the site. Emergency crews were forced to respond in large numbers due to the presence of hazardous materials.

Other attacks have targeted areas near sensitive locations, including Dimona—home to Israel’s nuclear research centre—where dozens of people were reported injured.

Advanced Weapons Challenge Israeli Defences

Iran’s use of increasingly sophisticated weaponry has raised concerns. Some missiles have been equipped with cluster munitions, which disperse multiple smaller explosives mid-air, making them far harder to intercept.

These tactics have at times overwhelmed Israel’s air defence systems, including the Iron Dome, allowing some projectiles to slip through and strike populated areas.

Debris from intercepted missiles has also caused damage, including in Jerusalem’s Old City, impacting religious and historic sites.

Regional Conflict Deepens

The situation has expanded beyond a direct Iran–Israel confrontation. Iran-backed groups, including Houthi forces in Yemen, have launched additional drone and missile attacks toward Israel, raising fears of a broader regional war.

Meanwhile, Israel continues to carry out strikes inside Iran, targeting military infrastructure in an effort to weaken Tehran’s ability to launch further.

Ongoing Threat Despite Setbacks

Although Israeli and U.S. operations have reportedly damaged a significant portion of Iran’s missile infrastructure, Iran continues to demonstrate its ability to strike. Analysts warn that its decentralised and mobile systems make it difficult to fully neutralise.

A Conflict With No Immediate End

With casualties rising on both sides and attacks continuing, the conflict shows little sign of slowing. Civilians remain at risk as missile sirens, airstrikes, and retaliatory attacks become a daily reality.

The situation remains highly unstable, with global leaders increasingly concerned that further escalation could draw in more countries and lead to a wider regional war.

Fake “Doctor” Jailed After Injecting Cement Into Patient’s Buttocks

A shocking criminal case has highlighted the deadly dangers of unlicensed cosmetic procedures, after a so-called “doctor” was arrested and jailed for injecting a toxic mixture—including cement—into a patient’s body.

The case, which took place in Florida, involved Oneal Ron Morris, an individual who falsely posed as a cosmetic surgeon while carrying out illegal buttock enhancement procedures. Patients believed they were receiving safe silicone treatments, but instead were injected with a dangerous cocktail of substances such as cement, mineral oil, glue and even tyre sealant.

A Deadly Procedure

One of Morris’s victims, Shatarka Nuby, underwent multiple injections over several years. After the procedures, her condition rapidly deteriorated—her skin hardened, turned dark, and she suffered severe internal complications.

Medical investigations later found that the substances had migrated through her body, ultimately causing fatal respiratory failure.

Authorities arrested Morris, who was later convicted of manslaughter and practicing medicine without a licence. She was sentenced to 10 years in prison, bringing some measure of justice to the victim’s family.

How the Scam Operated

According to reports, the fake practitioner carried out procedures in non-medical settings and charged patients hundreds or thousands of pounds for treatments that promised a fuller figure.

Victims were often unaware of what was being injected into their bodies. Some suffered intense pain, infections, and long-term disfigurement, while others required emergency hospital treatment.

In many cases, the substances used were not medical-grade at all, but industrial materials never intended for human use—making the procedures extremely dangerous.

https://receive-us.solar-engine.com/receive/turl/gCqmM4a?attribution_type=ua&touchpoint_type=click&client_custom_params_1=d1bcfd24-1ef7-4f5a-ac16-05eebe1eda29

A Wider Warning

This case is not isolated. Health authorities have repeatedly warned about the rise of illegal cosmetic procedures carried out by unqualified individuals. These underground operations often target people seeking cheaper alternatives to legitimate surgery.

Experts stress that any cosmetic treatment involving injections should only be performed by fully licensed and accredited medical professionals in regulated environments.

Conclusion

The cement injection case stands as a grim reminder of how dangerous unregulated cosmetic treatments can be. What may begin as a pursuit of beauty can quickly turn into a life-threatening situation when carried out by unqualified individuals.

Authorities continue to urge the public to verify medical credentials and avoid cut-price procedures that seem too good to be true—because, as this case shows, the consequences can be devastating.

Scientists Explore Honey Bee Venom as Potential Breakthrough in Breast Cancer Treatment

Scientists are increasingly turning to nature in the search for new cancer treatments, and one unlikely candidate—honey bee venom—is showing promising results in early laboratory studies.

Research has found that honey bee venom, particularly a key component called melittin, can destroy certain types of breast cancer cells under controlled conditions. Studies suggest the compound is capable of breaking down cancer cell membranes and interfering with signals that allow tumours to grow.

In one widely cited study, researchers discovered that melittin was especially effective against aggressive forms of the disease, including triple-negative and HER2-positive breast cancers, which are often harder to treat. The venom was shown to rapidly kill cancer cells while leaving many healthy cells largely unaffected in laboratory settings.

How It Works

Melittin, the substance that causes the pain from a bee sting, makes up a large portion of bee venom. Scientists have found that it can:

Break apart cancer cell membranes

Block growth signals that tumours rely on

Trigger cell death (apoptosis) in cancer cells

Some research also suggests it may help slow the spread of cancer by affecting genes linked to tumour growth and metastasis.

Early-Stage Research

Despite the promising findings, experts stress that this research is still in its early stages. Most studies so far have been carried out in laboratories using cancer cells or in animal models—not in large-scale human clinical trials.

While results show strong anti-cancer activity, many substances can kill cancer cells in a lab environment. The real challenge is developing a treatment that is both safe and effective for humans.

Researchers are currently exploring ways to safely deliver melittin—such as using nanoparticles or targeted therapies—to avoid harming healthy tissue.

Not a Treatment Yet

Medical professionals caution that bee venom is not a cure for cancer, and people should not attempt to use it as a treatment. Direct exposure to bee venom can be dangerous and may cause severe allergic reactions.

Instead, scientists see this as a potential foundation for future drug development, where components of the venom could be refined and used in controlled medical treatments.

A Promising Area of Study

The discovery highlights how natural substances continue to play a role in modern medicine. While more research is needed, honey bee venom could one day contribute to new, targeted therapies for breast cancer.

For now, experts emphasise that patients should rely on approved medical treatments and consult healthcare professionals for advice.

Former Metropolitan Police officer Jailed for 24 Years Over Serious Sexual Offences

A former Metropolitan Police volunteer officer has been sentenced to 24 years in prison after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offences involving two victims.

James Bubb, who also used the name Gwyn Samuels, was found guilty following a court trial that detailed a prolonged pattern of abuse, manipulation, and coercive behaviour.

The court heard that one of the victims was a child at the time the offences began. Bubb used online communication to build trust before arranging to meet in person, where he then carried out sexual assaults. The abuse continued over a period of time, causing significant and lasting harm.

He was also convicted of offences against a second victim, an adult woman, whom he met online under false pretences. Prosecutors described how the relationship became controlling and abusive, with Bubb using deception and pressure to exploit the victim.

The offences took place over several years and involved the misuse of trust, including knowledge gained through his role connected to policing. Although not a serving officer at the time of all offences, the case has raised wider concerns about safeguarding and the responsibilities of those in positions linked to public service.

During sentencing, the judge emphasised the seriousness of the crimes and the profound impact on the victims, noting that the harm caused would be long-lasting. A substantial custodial sentence was handed down to reflect the gravity of the offences and to protect the public.

Police have described Bubb as a dangerous offender and have encouraged anyone with further information to come forward, as enquiries remain ongoing.

Support organisations have also reiterated that victims of sexual abuse are not alone and that confidential help is available through charities and support services across the UK.

Tiger Woods Arrested and Charged with DUI After Rollover Crash

Golf legend Tiger Woods has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence (DUI) following a dramatic rollover car crash near his home in Florida, in an incident that has once again placed the sporting icon under intense public scrutiny.

The 50-year-old was taken into custody on March 27, 2026, after his Land Rover overturned on a narrow road in Jupiter Island. According to authorities, Woods had attempted to overtake another vehicle at speed when he clipped a trailer, causing his SUV to flip onto its side.

Despite the severity of the crash, Woods escaped without serious injury and managed to exit the vehicle himself. Emergency responders at the scene reported that he appeared “lethargic” and showed signs of impairment.

DUI Charges and Investigation

Woods was subsequently arrested and charged with multiple misdemeanours, including DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test.

A breathalyser test carried out at the scene reportedly showed a reading of 0.00, indicating no alcohol in his system. However, Woods refused to undergo a urine test, leading investigators to suspect that drugs or prescription medication may have contributed to his condition.

He was held in custody for several hours, as required under Florida law, before being released on bail later the same day.

A Pattern of Past Incidents

This latest arrest adds to a troubling history of driving-related incidents involving Woods. In 2017, he was arrested for DUI after being found asleep at the wheel, later attributing the incident to an adverse reaction to prescription medication.

He was also involved in a serious rollover crash in 2021 in California, which left him with significant leg injuries, although no criminal charges were filed in that case.

Reaction and Impact

The news has sparked concern across the sporting world, with some figures in golf calling for accountability and suggesting Woods may need to step away from the game to address ongoing personal issues.

The incident also raises fresh questions about his future in professional golf. Having only recently returned to competitive appearances after years of injury setbacks, this latest controversy could further delay or even derail his comeback ambitions.

Conclusion

Tiger Woods remains one of the greatest golfers in history, but his legacy continues to be complicated by repeated off-course incidents. As legal proceedings move forward, attention will not only be on the outcome of the case, but also on whether the former world number one can confront the issues that have repeatedly placed him in danger—both to himself and others on the road.

Gen Z Drives Rise in Church Attendance — But Questions Remain

A new wave of younger worshippers has been credited with boosting church attendance across the UK, with figures suggesting a notable rise between 2018 and 2024.

According to widely reported research, the proportion of young people attending church monthly increased significantly during this period. Among 18–24-year-olds, attendance was said to have risen from just 4% in 2018 to around 16% in 2024 — a jump of roughly 12 percentage points, often described as a sharp generational shift toward faith.

Across the wider population, monthly church attendance was also reported to have grown, rising from 8% in 2018 to 12% in 2024, reflecting a broader — though more modest — increase.

A “Quiet Revival” Among Young People

The trend has been described by some researchers as a “quiet revival,” driven largely by Generation Z. Young men in particular appear to be leading the shift, with some data suggesting their participation rose more sharply than that of young women.

Analysts point to several reasons behind this change. For many in Gen Z, church offers something increasingly rare in modern life — community, structure, and meaning. In a world shaped by social media, economic uncertainty and post-pandemic isolation, faith spaces are becoming places where young people can connect in a more personal and grounded way.

There is also evidence that this generation approaches religion differently. Rather than attending out of tradition, those who do go to church are often described as being more intentional and spiritually curious.

However, The Data Has Been Challenged

Despite the optimistic headlines, the figures behind this trend have recently come under scrutiny.

In 2026, it emerged that the original survey behind the “quiet revival” claims contained fraudulent responses, leading to the data being withdrawn.

The now-questioned report had suggested a dramatic rise — including claims of a 16% increase among young people — but polling firm YouGov later admitted flaws in its methodology.

This has cast doubt on the scale of the revival, with experts warning that the increase may have been overstated. Some national datasets still show only a modest recovery in church attendance following the pandemic, rather than a full-scale resurgence.

https://receive-us.solar-engine.com/receive/turl/gCqmM4a?attribution_type=ua&touchpoint_type=click&client_custom_params_1=d1bcfd24-1ef7-4f5a-ac16-05eebe1eda29

A Shift — But Not a Full Comeback

Even with the controversy, there are still signs that something is changing. Independent data and church records suggest a small but genuine uptick in attendance, particularly among younger adults.

Rather than signalling a return to traditional religion on a mass scale, the trend may point to a more nuanced shift — where fewer young people identify as religious overall, but those who do are more actively engaged.

Conclusion

The idea of a 16% surge in Gen Z church attendance between 2018 and 2024 captured attention across the UK. While that exact figure is now disputed, the broader picture remains important.

There are growing indications that a section of younger people are rediscovering faith — not out of habit, but by choice. Whether this marks a lasting cultural change or a temporary shift is still uncertain, but it highlights a generation searching for meaning in an increasingly complex world.

Dear 222 News viewers, sponsored by smileband,

Then and Now: How Living Standards and Values in the UK Have Changed Since the 1970s

The United Kingdom of the 1970s and 1980s was, in many ways, a different world. From the cost of living and job security to the way people treated one another, everyday life reflected a society that placed a strong emphasis on community, resilience, and mutual respect. Fast forward to today, and while living standards have improved in many measurable ways, there is an ongoing debate about whether something less tangible—respect and shared values—has been lost along the way.

Material Living Standards: Progress and Pressure

In purely economic terms, modern Britain is far wealthier than it was half a century ago. Homes are better equipped, technology has transformed daily life, and access to healthcare, education, and global opportunities has expanded significantly. In the 1970s, many households lived without central heating, relied on limited consumer goods, and faced frequent economic instability, including strikes and power cuts.

However, today’s higher standard of living comes with its own pressures. Housing has become significantly less affordable, particularly for younger generations. While wages have risen over time, the cost of property, rent, and everyday essentials has increased sharply, leading many to feel financially stretched despite living in a more advanced economy. In the past, it was more common for a single income to support a household; today, dual incomes are often a necessity.

Community and Social Bonds

One of the most commonly cited differences between then and now is the strength of community ties. In the 1970s and 80s, local communities often played a central role in people’s lives. Neighbours knew each other well, children played in the streets, and there was a stronger sense of shared identity—particularly in working-class areas built around industries like mining, manufacturing, and shipbuilding.

As those industries declined, so too did many of the tight-knit communities they supported. Today, people are more mobile, often moving for work or education, which can weaken long-term community bonds. Social interaction has also shifted online, changing the nature of relationships and sometimes reducing face-to-face contact.

Respect and Changing Values

The idea that respect has declined is widely discussed, though it is also subjective. In earlier decades, respect was often closely tied to authority—towards elders, teachers, and institutions. Social norms were clearer, and behaviour was shaped by stricter expectations.

In modern Britain, attitudes have become more individualistic. There is greater emphasis on personal freedom, equality, and self-expression, which has brought many positive changes, including advances in civil rights and social inclusion. However, some argue that this shift has also led to a weakening of traditional manners and a reduced sense of accountability in public behaviour.

It is worth noting that “respect” today may simply be expressed differently. While older generations may view politeness and deference as key markers, younger people often prioritise fairness, tolerance, and authenticity as forms of respect.

Technology and the Pace of Life

Another defining difference is the role of technology. Life in the 1970s and 80s moved at a slower pace. Communication was limited to landlines, letters, and face-to-face interaction. Today, smartphones and social media have created a constant flow of information and connection—but also stress, comparison, and sometimes conflict.

This shift has influenced how people interact. Public discourse can feel more divided, and anonymity online can lead to behaviour that might not occur in person. At the same time, technology has enabled new forms of community and support that were previously impossible.

A More Complex Picture

It would be too simple to say that life was “better” in the past or that respect has simply disappeared. The UK has become more diverse, more open, and more progressive in many ways. Opportunities have expanded, and many aspects of life—from healthcare to entertainment—have improved dramatically.

Yet, there remains a sense of nostalgia for a time when communities felt closer and social expectations were clearer. Whether that reflects a genuine decline in respect or simply a change in how it is expressed is open to interpretation.

Conclusion

The transformation of the UK since the 1970s reflects both progress and challenge. Living standards have undeniably improved in material terms, but social dynamics have evolved in ways that leave some questioning the state of respect and shared values. Ultimately, each era brings its own strengths and shortcomings—and understanding these changes can help shape a future that balances prosperity with a renewed sense of community and mutual respect.
