Kim Kardashian’s Paris Robbery Ringleader Found Guilty Nearly a Decade Later

Nearly nine years after Kim Kardashian was bound and robbed at gunpoint in a Paris luxury residence, the French court has delivered a verdict. Aomar Aït Khedache, known as “Old Omar,” was found guilty of orchestrating the 2016 heist that saw over $10 million in jewelry stolen from the reality star during Paris Fashion Week.

The ‘Heist of the Century’

In the early hours of October 3, 2016, five masked men disguised as police officers infiltrated the Hôtel de Pourtalès, where Kardashian was staying. They zip-tied her at gunpoint, gagged her, and locked her in the bathroom while stealing high-value items, including a $4 million engagement ring from Kanye West. The robbers, aged between 60 and 72, were dubbed the “Grandpa Robbers” by French media due to their advanced age and criminal histories.

Trial and Verdict

The trial, which began in April 2025, concluded with Aït Khedache and seven others found guilty. Aït Khedache received an eight-year sentence, with five years suspended. Three others received seven-year terms, also largely suspended. Two defendants were acquitted.

DNA evidence played a crucial role in the convictions. Aït Khedache’s genetic profile was found on the bindings used to gag Kardashian. Wiretaps also revealed his orchestration of the robbery and plans to sell the stolen diamonds in Belgium.

Kardashian’s Testimony and Aftermath

Kardashian testified emotionally during the trial, stating she feared being raped or killed during the ordeal. She ultimately forgave her assailants despite enduring long-term trauma. The robbery profoundly impacted Kardashian, leading her to prioritize privacy and change her social media habits.

Unrecovered Loot and Lingering Questions

Despite the convictions, most of the stolen jewelry remains unrecovered. Only a diamond-encrusted cross dropped during the escape was found. The suspected “super fence,” Marceau Baum-Gertner, who allegedly facilitated the sale of the stolen items, died under mysterious circumstances shortly before the trial.

The verdict brings a sense of closure to a case that highlighted the vulnerabilities celebrities face from oversharing online and the lengths to which criminals will go to exploit such information.
