Chris Brown Released on £5 Million Bail Amid London Assault Charges

American R&B singer Chris Brown has been released on £5 million ($6.7 million) bail by a London court, following his arrest over an alleged assault at a Mayfair nightclub in February 2023. The 36-year-old artist is accused of attacking music producer Abraham Diaw with a tequila bottle, followed by punching and kicking, resulting in grievous bodily harm charges. Surveillance footage reportedly captured the incident.

Brown was arrested on May 15, 2025, at the Lowry Hotel in Salford, Greater Manchester. Initially denied bail, he was later granted release by Southwark Crown Court under stringent conditions: an immediate payment of £4 million, with an additional £1 million due within seven days. He is also required to surrender his passport, except for travel related to his upcoming “Breezy Bowl XX” world tour, and must reside at a court-approved address.

The bail decision allows Brown to proceed with his tour, commencing on June 8 in Amsterdam, marking his 20th anniversary in the music industry. Despite the legal proceedings, he is permitted to perform, with his next court appearance scheduled for June 20 at Southwark Crown Court.

Co-defendant Omololu Akinlolu, known as “HoodyBaby,” a longtime friend and collaborator of Brown, faces similar charges in connection to the incident. Neither individual has entered a plea.

In addition to the criminal case, Diaw has filed a civil lawsuit seeking £12 million ($16 million) in damages, alleging severe injuries and lasting consequences from the assault.

Brown’s legal history includes prior incidents, notably a 2009 assault on then-girlfriend Rihanna. This latest case adds to a series of legal challenges the singer has faced over the years.

As the legal process unfolds, Brown’s ability to fulfill his tour commitments remains under scrutiny, with the upcoming court date poised to impact his professional engagements.
