Trump Spends Day on Scottish Golf Course Ahead of Key Diplomatic Meetings

Ayrshire, Scotland

Former U.S. President Donald Trump was spotted teeing off at his Turnberry golf resort in Scotland today, enjoying a round of golf under grey skies ahead of a scheduled series of private diplomatic meetings set to take place later this week.

Wearing his signature red “Make America Great Again” cap and accompanied by close associates and a security detail, Trump appeared relaxed as he played 18 holes at the luxury coastal resort he purchased in 2014. His visit comes as speculation mounts over his increasing involvement in global political discourse — and possible ambitions ahead of the 2028 U.S. election.

Trump’s golf outing precedes planned closed-door discussions with several international figures, including unnamed British political allies and European business leaders, according to sources close to his team. While the meetings are not part of any official government itinerary, they are expected to touch on trade, foreign investment, and energy policy.

This is not Trump’s first use of the golf course as a setting for informal diplomacy. During his presidency, he often used his resorts in Florida and New Jersey to host both allies and adversaries in a more relaxed environment. Analysts say the approach allows Trump to maintain political influence outside formal channels.

Critics, however, accuse Trump of using the meetings to boost his business interests, given that Turnberry remains a high-profile part of his real estate portfolio. Scottish politicians have raised concerns in the past about the overlap between Trump’s political activities and his corporate holdings.

“He’s trying to blur the lines between diplomacy and self-promotion,” said one Scottish MP from the Scottish National Party. “If there are genuine diplomatic discussions happening, the public deserves transparency.”

Trump’s team has not released details about the upcoming meetings but emphasized that the former president is in Scotland “as a private citizen engaging in global dialogue.”

Meanwhile, local residents gathered near the resort to watch the spectacle, some waving American flags while others protested with banners decrying Trump’s controversial legacy.

Despite the mixed reception, Trump’s presence in Scotland underscores his ongoing efforts to maintain international relevance — with the golf course, once again, serving as his favored arena.
