Three Teenagers Charged with Murder of 49-Year-Old Man on Isle of Sheppey

Leysdow n-on-Sea, Isle of Sheppey (Kent), August 2025 — A violent incident on a Sunday evening has left a 49-year-old man dead and prompted a serious criminal investigation. Three teenage suspects have now been charged with his murder.

The Incident

On Sunday, 10 August 2025, shortly after 7:00 pm, Kent Police were called to the Warden Bay Road area near Leysdown-on-Sea on the Isle of Sheppey, following reports of a disturbance involving multiple individuals. Emergency responders arrived, but the victim, later identified as Alexander Cashford, aged 49, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities noted that he had sustained multiple injuries during what was described as a violent assault, allegedly involving a glass bottle and rocks.

The Victim

Alexander Cashford, who previously worked as an electrician, suffered fatal injuries, including bruising to his ribs, stomach, and a head wound. Paramedics and bystanders reportedly attempted CPR at the scene, but he succumbed before any recovery attempts could succeed.

The Suspects

Arrested shortly after the incident were a 16-year-old girl and two boys aged 14 and 15, all from London and believed to have been holidaying in Kent at the time. They have been charged with murder by joint enterprise. A 12-year-old girl connected to the case was also arrested in Basildon, Essex, and remains in custody as investigations continue.

Court Proceedings

All three teenagers appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 13 August 2025. Due to their age, they cannot be publicly named. Emotions were visible in court: the girl and the youngest boy cried, while the 15-year-old boy appeared quiet and distressed. None entered a plea.

They were remanded into youth detention accommodation, with intentions to appear next at Maidstone Crown Court. Investigators confirmed that post-mortem results are pending, with early findings suggesting the possibility that Cashford may have suffered a medical episode—such as a cardiac arrest—precipitated by the assault, though this remains under investigation.

At Maidstone Crown Court, their case will proceed through preliminary hearings. A trial is scheduled to begin on 13 January 2026, expected to last up to six weeks.

Community Reaction & Ongoing Investigation

The death of Cashford has left locals on the Isle of Sheppey in shock, describing the area as normally peaceful. Many have voiced concern over such a brutal incident happening in their community.
