Manchester Farmer Killed by Man Impersonating Police Officer
A rural community on the outskirts of Manchester has been left in shock after a well-known local farmer was killed by a man posing as a police officer. The victim, identified by neighbours as 58-year-old David Hollins, was found dead on his farm late Thursday evening following what authorities have described as a “targeted and calculated attack.”
According to Greater Manchester Police (GMP), the suspect arrived at Hollins Farm, located near the village of Worsley, driving a vehicle fitted with flashing blue lights and false police markings. Witnesses say the man, dressed in a black tactical-style uniform, claimed to be conducting an official investigation and ordered Mr. Hollins outside before a violent altercation ensued.
Emergency services were called after nearby residents heard shouting and a single gunshot. Despite efforts from paramedics, Mr. Hollins was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect fled before police arrived.
Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Lang from GMP’s Major Incident Team said the force was “appalled” by the incident and confirmed that a manhunt is underway.
“This is a disturbing and deeply deceptive crime. Someone deliberately pretended to be a police officer to gain access to Mr. Hollins’s property and has taken his life in cold blood. We are pursuing every lead to bring this individual to justice,” Lang stated.
Forensic teams spent much of Friday combing the area, while officers conducted door-to-door inquiries. CCTV footage from nearby roads is also being reviewed to trace the fake police vehicle, believed to be a dark-coloured SUV.
Friends described Hollins as a “gentle and hardworking man” who had farmed the same land for over three decades. “He’d help anyone — a proper old-school farmer,” said local resident Anne Pearson. “To think someone tricked him like that makes it even worse.”
The incident has raised fresh concerns about individuals impersonating law enforcement officers, with police reminding the public that genuine officers will always carry proper identification
