Prison Officer Arrested Over Alleged Sexual Relationship With 18-Year-Old Inmate
A prison officer has been arrested after allegations emerged that she engaged in a sexual relationship with an inmate aged just 18, raising serious concerns about abuse of power and safeguarding failures within the prison system.
The officer, identified as Ailica Novas, was taken into custody following an internal investigation at the correctional facility where she was employed. Authorities allege that Novas became involved in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a young male prisoner shortly after he entered custody.
Although the inmate was legally an adult, prison regulations strictly prohibit any sexual contact between staff and prisoners, regardless of age. Such relationships are considered a serious criminal offence due to the inherent power imbalance and the inability of prisoners to give free and informed consent.
A spokesperson for the prison service confirmed that Novas has been suspended from duty pending the outcome of the investigation. “We operate a zero-tolerance policy toward any form of misconduct by staff,” the statement said. “The safety and welfare of those in our care is paramount.”
