Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Prison Release Date Moved Up by More Than Five Weeks

Sean “Diddy” Combs — the influential music executive, producer, and former hip-hop icon — is set to walk free from federal prison weeks earlier than previously scheduled, according to updated Federal Bureau of Prisons records and multiple recent reports.

A Shift in the Timeline

Combs, 56, who has been serving a 50-month sentence at the Fort Dix Federal Correctional Institution in New Jersey following his conviction in 2025 on two counts relating to transportation for prostitution, now has a new projected release date of April 25, 2028. That’s a full five weeks earlier than the June 4, 2028 prison release date that had been listed in public records.

This isn’t the first adjustment to his release schedule. After being sentenced in late 2025, his initial release date of May 8, 2028 was first pushed back by prison authorities to June, before now being moved forward again.

Reason Behind the Early Release

Reports indicate the change stems from Combs’ participation in the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP in) — a federal rehabilitation initiative that can allow qualifying inmates to reduce their sentence if they complete the program. His engagement with RDAP since November last year appears to have played a key role in earning the earlier release date.

While RDAP is known to help shorten sentences for eligible participants, the rapper’s ongoing legal circumstances have also shaped the narrative. Combs is currently appealing his conviction and continues to fight his sentence in court. His legal team has argued that prosecutors overreached in their charges and that his constitutional rights were violated during the trial process.

A Career in Flux

Once one of the most powerful figures in hip-hop — pioneering Bad Boy Records and launching the careers of artists from The Notorious B.I.G. to Mary J. Blige — Combs’ legacy has been overshadowed by his legal troubles. Since his arrest in September 2024, he has been held at Fort Dix and has seen several twists in how his sentence has played out behind bars.

Despite his imprisonment and efforts to secure an appeal — including requests for clemency — his upcoming earlier release offers a measure of relief to his supporters and family. It also renews attention on how high-profile entertainers navigate the U.S. legal system, especially when rehabilitation opportunities like RDAP intersect with public controversy.

Looking Ahead

As it stands now, Combs is on track to leave prison in April 2028, having reduced his time served by roughly six weeks through program participation and administrative adjustments by federal authorities. Whether further legal developments will impact this timeline remains to be seen as his appeal continues through the courts.
