Baby Shot by Stray Bullet as 21-Year-Old Arrested

A baby has been left fighting for life after being struck by a stray bullet in a shocking incident that has sparked outrage and renewed concerns over gun violence.

Emergency services were called to the scene after reports of gunfire rang out in a residential area. Paramedics and police arrived within minutes, finding the infant with serious injuries believed to have been caused by a stray round fired during a nearby altercation.

The child was rushed to hospital under blue lights, where doctors are working to stabilise their condition. Authorities have not yet disclosed the baby’s age or current prognosis, but described the situation as “extremely serious.”

A 21-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences and causing grievous bodily harm. He remains in police custody while detectives continue to piece together the events that led to the shooting.

Initial investigations suggest the baby was not the intended target. Officers believe the bullet may have been fired during a dispute between individuals in the area, with the round travelling unpredictably before striking the child.

Local residents have expressed horror at the incident, describing the neighbourhood as usually quiet. One witness said: “You never expect something like this to happen, especially involving a baby. It’s heartbreaking.”

Police have cordoned off the area and are carrying out forensic examinations, while appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. Detectives are also reviewing CCTV footage in an effort to trace the exact sequence of events.

Senior officers condemned the violence, stating: “This is a senseless and devastating act. Our thoughts are with the child and their family at this incredibly difficult time.”

The incident has once again raised urgent questions about the presence of illegal firearms on Britain’s streets, with community leaders calling for tougher action and increased policing to prevent further tragedies.
