Albanian Gang Used Rightmove to Target Homes in £3 Million Burglary Spree

A sophisticated Albanian crime gang has been jailed after using the UK property website Rightmove to plan a series of high-value burglaries across the country.

The group, made up of six members including a British accomplice, carried out a meticulously organised crime spree that saw up to 44 homes targeted and goods worth as much as £3 million stolen, according to court proceedings.

How the Gang Operated

Investigators revealed the gang used Rightmove not to buy homes—but to study detailed floorplans and layouts of expensive properties. This allowed them to:

* Identify entry points such as first-floor windows

* Locate bedrooms, safes, and valuables in advance

* Plan quick escape routes near motorways and rural areas

They also researched affluent postcodes and selected properties that offered easy access and minimal risk of detection.

Armed with this information, the gang would strike at night—often while families were still inside their homes.

Terror Inside Targeted Homes

Victims described terrifying ordeals as burglars moved through their houses while they hid downstairs. In many cases:

* Children were left traumatised

* Rooms were ransacked in minutes

* Safes were ripped out using tools like sledgehammers and drills

One raid alone saw £238,000 worth of valuables stolen, including jewellery, designer handbags, and luxury watches.

A “Callous” Operation

Police described the gang as highly organised, with members travelling long distances using hire cars and coordinating attacks over a period of months.

They even set weekly targets for how much gold and valuables to steal, demonstrating the scale and planning behind the operation.

In a bizarre twist, one gang member began a relationship with a British medical student, who later assisted by renting vehicles and storing stolen goods. She avoided prison but received a suspended sentence.

Justice Served

Following a 10-month investigation, officers used DNA evidence, phone data, and number plate recognition to track the gang.

Key members were sentenced to between nine and nearly eleven years in prison, with some facing deportation after serving their time.

In total, the gang received over 38 years behind bars, bringing an end to one of the UK’s most calculated burglary operations in recent years.

A Warning to Homeowners

The case has raised concerns about how publicly available property listings can be exploited by criminals. Experts are now urging homeowners to be cautious about:

* Uploading detailed floorplans online

* Showcasing valuables in listing photos

* Advertising security weaknesses unintentionally

What was designed as a tool to help people find homes was, in this case, turned into a blueprint for crime.
