Woman, 30, Dies After Shooting Outside Sheffield Bar as Three Arrested
A murder investigation has been launched after a 30-year-old woman was shot outside a popular Sheffield city-centre bar during the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday.
South Yorkshire Police were called to reports of a shooting outside the One Four One Bar on West Street at approximately 2.45am on 25 May. Officers arriving at the scene discovered a woman with serious injuries consistent with a firearms incident. She was treated by emergency services before being taken to hospital, where she later died.
Three people have since been arrested on suspicion of murder. A 30-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman were detained near Stockport in Greater Manchester during the early hours of Monday, while another 30-year-old man was arrested in Sheffield. All three remain in police custody as investigations continue.
The shooting occurred on West Street, one of Sheffield’s busiest nightlife areas and a popular destination for students and revellers. Large sections of the area were cordoned off throughout Monday as forensic officers examined the scene and detectives gathered evidence. Public transport services in the city centre were also disrupted.
Assistant Chief Constable Colin McFarlane described the incident as “devastating” and expressed condolences to the victim’s family and friends. He said officers were working tirelessly to establish exactly what happened and bring those responsible before the courts.
Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. Detectives believe there were numerous people in the West Street and Eldon Street area at the time of the incident and are urging anyone who saw suspicious activity to contact investigators or report information.,
Formal identification of the victim has not yet taken place, although her family has been informed and is being supported by specially trained officers. The Major Crime Team is leading the investigation.
The fatal shooting has shocked Sheffield residents and prompted a significant police presence in the city centre, which is expected to remain in place while enquiries continue.
