PC Jess Turnbull Dies After Courageous Fight for Life Following Collision
Tributes have been paid to 19-year-old police officer Jess Turnbull, who sadly died after suffering critical injuries when she was struck by a car while responding to an incident in Northumberland.
PC Turnbull was attending the scene of a separate road traffic collision on the A189 Spine Road near Cramlington late on Monday evening when the tragedy occurred. While outside her marked police vehicle, she was hit by a black Mercedes that was not connected to the original incident. She was rushed to hospital in a critical condition and fought for her life for several days before passing away surrounded by her loved ones.
The young officer had joined Northumbria Police in September and was serving on a response policing team. Colleagues described her as a dedicated and committed officer who was passionate about helping others and keeping communities safe.
Chief Constable Vanessa Jardine paid an emotional tribute, describing the loss as devastating for both the force and the wider policing family. She said PC Turnbull had a promising future ahead of her and had already made a positive impact despite being at the beginning of her career.

A 73-year-old man was arrested in connection with the collision. Following PC Turnbull’s death, the investigation has continued under allegations of causing death by dangerous driving. Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage from anyone who was travelling in the area at the time.
