Trump Unveils New Air Force One Flying White House
President Donald Trump has officially unveiled a new presidential aircraft that will serve as a temporary Air Force One, describing it as a “flying White House” and one of the most advanced aircraft ever used by a U.S. president. The aircraft, a modified Boeing 747 donated by Qatar, was presented during a ceremony at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.
The aircraft has undergone extensive modifications to meet presidential security and communications requirements. According to officials, the jet has been equipped with advanced communications systems, defensive technology, and other upgrades designed to allow the president to govern while travelling anywhere in the world.
The new aircraft features a striking red, white, dark blue and gold paint scheme personally favored by Trump. The design replaces the traditional light-blue Air Force One appearance that has been associated with presidential travel since the 1960s.
Trump praised the aircraft during the unveiling ceremony, stating that the United States should have a presidential plane that reflects the country’s status on the world stage. The jet is expected to serve as a bridge aircraft until Boeing completes the long-delayed next-generation Air Force One fleet, which is currently expected to enter service in 2027 and 2028.
The Boeing 747 was originally owned by Qatar and is estimated to be worth around $400 million. Its transfer to the United States has generated political debate, with critics raising concerns about the acceptance of such a valuable gift from a foreign government. Supporters, however, argue that the aircraft provides a practical solution while the official replacement Air Force One programme continues to face delays.
The aircraft is expected to take part in major Independence Day celebrations and will be used for future presidential travel both within the United States and abroad. Officials say it now meets the standards required for presidential operations and will operate alongside the remaining aircraft in the Air Force One fleet.
The unveiling marks one of the most significant changes to presidential air travel in decades and represents a major step in modernising the aircraft used by the Commander-in-Chief. While controversy surrounding the aircraft continues, Trump has made clear that he believes the new jet symbolizes American strength, prestige and technological capability.
