Student Police Officer Mohammed Hassan Charged With Rape and Kidnap
A 23-year-old student police officer with Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has been charged with rape, kidnap and a number of other serious offences following an incident that led to a police pursuit on the M62.
Mohammed Hassan, who was an officer-in-training, was off duty when the alleged offences took place. GMP said he has since been suspended from the force.
According to reports, Hassan has been charged with oral rape, kidnap, strangulation, sexual assault, theft of a mobile phone and dangerous driving. The charges followed an incident on Saturday, 8 August 2026, which resulted in officers pursuing a vehicle onto the M62.
Woman Found at the Scene
Police located a woman when Hassan was arrested. She has been receiving specialist support from officers following the incident.
The prosecution has alleged that the woman was taken into a vehicle before the alleged sexual offences occurred. It was also alleged in court that the vehicle was later driven at extremely high speeds, with the dangerous-driving allegation forming part of the subsequent police pursuit. These allegations have not been tested at trial.
Greater Manchester Police said the investigation was conducted rapidly after the incident, with detectives working to establish what happened and bring charges.
Assistant Chief Constable Mark Dexter said the victim’s welfare remained the force’s priority and that specialist support was being provided.
Police Officer Suspended
Because Hassan was a serving student officer, GMP has suspended him while the criminal proceedings continue.
The case has also attracted particular attention because of Hassan’s position within the police. Police forces are expected to maintain high standards of professional conduct, and allegations involving an officer can raise questions about public confidence and accountability.
However, being charged does not mean Hassan has been found guilty. He remains legally presumed innocent unless and until a court determines otherwise.
Remanded in Custody
Hassan appeared before Stockport Magistrates’ Court following his arrest. The rape and kidnap allegations are matters that must be dealt with by a higher court, and he was remanded in custody.
His next hearing is scheduled to take place at Manchester Crown Court on 15 September 2026.
The case will now proceed through the criminal justice system, where the evidence and allegations will be examined by the courts.

The allegations against Hassan are serious, but it is important that reporting distinguishes between allegations and proven facts. The woman involved is being supported by specialist officers, while Hassan remains suspended from Greater Manchester Police as the legal process continues.
