Tim Westwood Faces Two New Sexual Offence Charged
Former BBC Radio 1 DJ Tim Westwood has been charged with two additional sexual offences relating to alleged incidents dating back more than two decades.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed on Tuesday 22 September 2026 that the 68-year-old faces an allegation of indecent assault involving a teenage girl aged 16 or 17 in Hammersmith and Fulham in 1991.
He has also been charged with sexual assault relating to an 18-year-old woman in Wandsworth in May 2004.
Total charges rise to 17
The latest charges are in addition to 15 charges brought against Westwood in October 2025.
Those existing charges include:
* Four counts of rape
* Nine counts of indecent assault
* Two counts of sexual assault
The allegations involving the earlier charges relate to seven women and span the period from 1983 to 2016.
With the two new charges, Westwood now faces 17 charges involving nine women.
Westwood has previously pleaded not guilty to the 15 existing charges and denies the allegations.
What happens next?
Westwood is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in connection with the two new charges, although a date has not yet been fixed.
The trial concerning the original 15 charges is scheduled to begin at Southwark Crown Court on 25 January 2027.
The Crown Prosecution Service said prosecutors had considered the evidence and concluded there was sufficient evidence and a public-interest basis to bring the additional charges.
The CPS has also stressed that criminal proceedings are active and that Westwood has the right to a fair trial.
Westwood’s broadcasting career
Westwood became one of Britain’s best-known hip-hop and rap broadcasters, beginning his career in radio before joining the BBC in the 1990s. He presented programmes on BBC Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra before later working with Capital XTRA.
He left Capital XTRA in 2022.
The latest allegations are now part of an ongoing criminal investigation and court process. The charges are allegations only and have not been proven in court.
