POLICE OFFICER SHOT IN NOTTINGHAM: FOUR ARRESTED AFTER CITY CENTRE GUN ATTACK

A police officer has been shot in the foot during a shocking early-morning incident in Nottingham city centre, prompting a major investigation and a search for those responsible. Four people have since been arrested in connection with the shooting.

What happened in Nottingham?

The incident took place at approximately 4:50am on Sunday, 18 October 2026, on Angel Row, close to Nottingham's Old Market Square.

According to Nottinghamshire Police, the officer approached two suspects, a man and a woman, before being shot in the foot. The pair fled the scene, and emergency services responded to the incident.

The injured officer was taken to hospital for treatment. Police subsequently confirmed that he was in a stable condition and receiving support from colleagues and loved ones.

A firearm was recovered at the scene, while a police cordon was established as investigators gathered evidence and worked to establish exactly what had happened.

Four people arrested following police investigation

Police made three arrests after stopping a vehicle in Nottingham's Radford area on Sunday evening. A fourth person was arrested after officers stopped a vehicle in Bedfordshire during the early hours of Monday, 19 October.

The four suspects are two men and two women. A 27-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life. Two other suspects, aged 24 and 25, and a 30-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

As of the latest reports on 19 October, all four remained in police custody and were being questioned. Arrests do not mean that anyone has been found guilty of an offence.

Police appeal to the public

Assistant Chief Constable Claire Rukas described the shooting as a deeply shocking incident and thanked members of the public who came to the injured officer's aid before additional emergency responders arrived.

Police also confirmed that there was no information suggesting a wider threat to the public. The cordon on Angel Row has since been lifted, although officers continue to maintain a presence in the area.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Nottinghamshire Police.

Conclusion

The shooting has raised serious concerns about the dangers police officers can face while carrying out their duties. Although the officer remains in a stable condition, the investigation continues as detectives work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

The thoughts of the community remain with the injured officer, his family and colleagues as he recovers.
