Andy Carroll Names Kevin Adams Following Sexual Assault
Former England footballer Andy Carroll has publicly confirmed the identity of the man who sexually assaulted him during his second spell at Newcastle United.
Carroll has identified Kevin Adams, a dance coach who appeared on the BBC programme Fame Academy, as the man involved in the 2021 incident.
Carroll originally chose not to name the attacker when he described the traumatic experience in his autobiography, Owning It. However, after learning that Adams’ name had appeared in publicly available court documents, Carroll said he could now confirm his identity.
The assault happened at Carroll’s home while he was sleeping. Carroll subsequently reported the incident to police and later gave evidence during the criminal proceedings.
Adams was convicted of sexual offences at Chelmsford Crown Court in 2023 and received a prison sentence. He was also placed on the sex offenders register.
For Carroll, speaking publicly about what happened has been an extremely difficult process. He has described giving evidence in court as humiliating, embarrassing and horrendous, and said the experience continued to affect his life and his football.
Carroll’s decision to speak openly about his experience has also highlighted that men can be victims of sexual violence and that sexual assault can have long-lasting consequences regardless of the victim’s gender.
The footballer said he hopes that talking about his experience could help somebody else who has experienced sexual abuse or assault feel less alone.
A difficult chapter
Carroll has made clear that he does not want the incident to define him. After years of keeping the experience largely private, he has chosen to tell his story on his own terms.
His disclosure has prompted renewed discussion about male victims of sexual assault and the importance of ensuring that survivors can come forward and receive appropriate support.
222 News understands that the conviction and sentencing are matters of public record. The allegations described above should be understood in the context of the criminal conviction.
