28-Year-Old Man Charged Over Alleged terror acts Involving Nigel Farage

A 28-year-old man has been charged with preparing acts of terrorism, including alleged activity directed towards Reform UK leader Nigel Farage MP, in a major development announced by Counter Terrorism Policing on Friday, October 2, 2026.

The man, Joshua Kerry of Rotherham, South Yorkshire, has been charged with one count of preparation of terrorist acts under Section 5(1)(a) of the Terrorism Act 2006. Police say the alleged activity took place between 31 May 2024 and 8 July 2026.

Farage named in terrorism charge

The charge specifically refers to terrorist acts including against Nigel Farage, who is the leader of Reform UK. Authorities have not publicly released detailed evidence describing exactly what was allegedly planned against Farage.

The Crown Prosecution Service said prosecutors had carefully reviewed the evidence and concluded there was sufficient evidence to prosecute Kerry. The CPS said its prosecutors would continue working with police as the investigation develops.

Wider investigation

The case comes amid a wider counter-terrorism investigation surrounding the death of former politician Ann Widdecombe, who was found dead at her home in Devon in July.

Kerry had previously been charged with murder in connection with Widdecombe’s death. Counter Terrorism Policing has described its investigation as lengthy and complex, involving detectives, analysts and forensic specialists.

Police have also previously reopened an investigation into an alleged attempted burglary at a property linked to Farage in 2025, following new lines of inquiry connected to the wider investigation.

Court appearance

Joshua Kerry is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on October 7, 2026.

Importantly, these are criminal allegations and charges, not convictions. The evidence will have to be tested through the court process.

The bigger concern

The case highlights the security challenges faced by politicians and public figures, particularly where threats potentially move beyond online abuse into alleged preparations for violence.

For Nigel Farage, the latest charge adds to a series of security concerns he has faced in recent years. Police previously investigated a separate social-media threat against him in which a man was accused of threatening to shoot him.

This remains a developing investigation, and further information is expected as the court proceedings continue.
