A woman has been arrested after allegedly opening fire outside the Los Angeles home of global music superstar Rihanna, sending shockwaves through the entertainment world.

Police say the frightening incident unfolded on Sunday, March 8, 2026, when gunshots were fired at the singer’s luxury mansion in a wealthy neighbourhood of Los Angeles. Authorities quickly launched a search and arrested a 35-year-old woman from Florida, identified as Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, who is now facing serious criminal charges.  

Gunfire outside the star’s home

According to investigators, Ortiz allegedly fired around 7 to 10 shots from an AR-15-style rifle while sitting in a white Tesla parked across the street from the property. Several bullets struck the front gate and nearby structures, but no one inside the home was injured.  

At the time of the shooting, Rihanna was reportedly inside the home she shares with her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky, and their children. Despite the terrifying situation, the family was unharmed.  

Suspect arrested after police chase

Los Angeles police tracked the suspect’s vehicle using a helicopter and arrested her about 30 minutes after the shooting in a nearby shopping centre parking lot. Officers reportedly recovered the weapon and took Ortiz into custody without further incident.  

Prosecutors say the suspect is being held on bail of around $10.2 million while the investigation continues. She is expected to appear in court to face attempted murder charges related to the shooting.  

Motive still unclear

Authorities are still trying to determine why the woman targeted the property. Investigators are examining the suspect’s social media accounts and background for clues. Reports suggest she posted troubling online videos mentioning Rihanna before the incident.  

Increased security

Following the shooting, security around Rihanna’s home has reportedly been increased as a precaution. Fans around the world have expressed concern for the singer and her family after the shocking event.  

Rihanna, one of the best-selling artists in history and founder of the billion-dollar Fenty brand, has not yet publicly commented on the incident as the police investigation continues.

Former Footballer Joey Barton Charged With Wounding With Intent

Former England international and Premier League midfielder Joey Barton has been charged with wounding with intent, following an alleged violent incident near a golf club in Merseyside. The charge relates to a serious assault that reportedly left a man hospitalised with significant injuries.  

Alleged assault near Liverpool

Emergency services were called at around 9pm on Sunday (8 March 2026) to reports of an assault near Huyton and Prescot Golf Club in Merseyside. When police and paramedics arrived, they discovered a man suffering from serious injuries to his face, ribs, and body.  

The victim was taken to hospital and is reported to be in a serious but stable condition, according to Merseyside Police.  

Authorities later arrested Barton, 43, along with Gary O’Grady, 50, from Huyton. Both men have now been formally charged with Section 18 wounding with intent, which is one of the most serious forms of grievous bodily harm under UK law.  

Court appearance

Barton, who is from Widnes in Cheshire, was expected to appear before Wirral Magistrates’ Court shortly after being charged. Police investigations remain ongoing, with officers reportedly searching the scene and gathering evidence following the incident.  

Under UK law, a conviction for Section 18 wounding with intent can carry a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, although sentences vary depending on the circumstances and severity of the case.

A massive asteroid floating through our solar system could hold so much mineral wealth that, in theory, it might make every person on Earth a billionaire. One of the most famous examples is 16 Psyche, a gigantic metallic asteroid located in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. Researchers believe this asteroid may be the exposed core of an ancient planet that was destroyed billions of years ago. Because of its unusual composition, it is thought to be packed with metals like iron and nickel, along with traces of gold and platinum.  

Estimates suggest that the metals inside Psyche could be worth as much as $10 quintillion or more, an amount far larger than the entire global economy. Some speculative calculations even place the potential value of its resources at tens of thousands of quadrillions of dollars.  

If that wealth were somehow divided equally among the world’s population, every person could theoretically become a billionaire overnight. However, experts say the reality would be far more complicated.

Asteroids rich in minerals fall into different categories. Metallic or “M-type” asteroids are particularly valuable because they contain massive quantities of iron, nickel, cobalt, and rare metals. A single asteroid about one kilometer wide could hold millions of tons of nickel and thousands of tons of platinum.  

Despite the enormous potential value, mining such an asteroid remains a huge technological challenge. Spacecraft would need to travel millions of miles, extract the minerals, and transport them safely back to Earth. The cost of doing this today would likely be far greater than the value of the metals recovered.

There is also another major issue: economics. If enormous amounts of gold, nickel, and other precious metals suddenly flooded Earth’s markets, their prices would likely collapse. Gold and platinum are valuable largely because they are scarce, so an asteroid full of these materials could drastically reduce their market value.

Nevertheless, space agencies and private companies are increasingly interested in asteroid mining. Missions studying metallic asteroids could help scientists understand how planets formed while also paving the way for future space resource industries.

If technology eventually makes asteroid mining possible, these cosmic treasure chests could transform the global economy and provide humanity with nearly unlimited raw materials. What was once science fiction may one day become the greatest mining boom in human history—taking place not on Earth, but in space.

Police have confirmed that no injuries were reported, but the investigation is continuing as authorities work to determine why the shooting occurred. Security around the property has reportedly been increased while investigators review evidence and interview witnesses.

Despite the frightening situation, Rihanna and everyone inside the residence are safe, and the suspect is now in custody while police continue their investigation.

Vybz Kartel Wins Lawsuit Over Legal Fees in Major Court Victory

Dancehall superstar Vybz Kartel has secured a significant legal victory after a court in New York dismissed a multi-million-dollar lawsuit filed against him and a concert promoter, bringing an end to a case that threatened his business dealings and potentially large legal costs.

The ruling, delivered by a judge at the New York Supreme Court, dismissed the case “with prejudice,” meaning the plaintiffs are permanently barred from filing the same claim again.  

Background to the Lawsuit

The lawsuit was originally filed in July 2025 and involved claims linked to Kartel’s planned U.S. performances and contractual arrangements with a promoter. The case alleged issues tied to concert agreements and visa-related matters connected to the artist’s ability to perform in the United States.  

If successful, the claim could have cost the Jamaican dancehall star millions of dollars in damages and legal fees, as well as impacting his performance rights and relationships with promoters.  

Court Throws Out the Case

Kartel’s legal team, led by attorney Kadian Townsend of the Townsend Law Firm, successfully argued for the case to be dismissed. The judge agreed with the defence and threw out the lawsuit entirely.

Because the dismissal was issued with prejudice, the plaintiffs cannot bring the same case again, effectively ending the legal dispute and protecting Kartel from further litigation on the matter.  

Townsend described the ruling as both a professional and personal milestone, noting that the case represented an important moment for her legal career and for protecting the artist’s interests.  

Another Win in Kartel’s Legal Comeback

The decision adds to a dramatic period in Kartel’s life and career. In 2024, his long-standing murder conviction was quashed after the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council ruled that juror misconduct had compromised the trial, leading to his eventual release later that year.  

Since then, the dancehall icon has been rebuilding his career, releasing music and exploring international performances while navigating several legal disputes tied to concerts and contracts.

The court’s decision is widely seen as a major legal and financial win for Kartel. By dismissing the case permanently, the ruling removes the threat of heavy damages and legal fees while reinforcing his ability to operate in the global music market.
