METH LAB DISCOVERED ON WARWICKSHIRE FARM AS FIVE MEXICAN MEN FACE DRUG CHARGES

Remote countryside property allegedly used to produce Class A drug

A major National Crime Agency investigation has uncovered an alleged methamphetamine laboratory operating on remote farmland in Warwickshire, with five Mexican men now facing charges over the suspected production of the Class A drug.

The laboratory was discovered near Furnace End in North Warwickshire following an investigation led by the National Crime Agency (NCA). Officers arrested five men on 13 August 2026 and subsequently charged them with conspiracy to produce methamphetamine. 

The defendants have been identified as Alejandro Ambriz Dimas, 45, Victora Ramirez, 47, Fausto Beltran, 33, Lioncio Moso Borja, 37, and Jose Nunez Angolo, 44.

According to the NCA, four of the men are from Culiacán in the Sinaloa region of north-west Mexico, while Dimas is from Michoacán in southern Mexico. Their origins have led to reports drawing comparisons with the powerful Sinaloa Cartel, but authorities have not publicly established that the men were members of the cartel. 

FARM PROPERTY TURNED INTO ALLEGED DRUG LAB

The discovery has raised concerns about the growing reach of organised drug production and the possibility that rural properties can be used to conceal sophisticated criminal activity away from major towns and cities.

The NCA says the suspected operation involved a laboratory on isolated farmland. Warwickshire Police, West Midlands Fire Service and West Midlands Ambulance Service supported the operation, with the ambulance service standing by because of the potential dangers associated with the site. 

Methamphetamine is a highly addictive Class A drug and can cause serious physical and psychological harm.

FIVE MEN DENY THE ALLEGATIONS

The five defendants appeared at Warwick Crown Court and pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to produce methamphetamine.

Their lawyers told the court that the men denied knowledge of drug production. The case was adjourned, with a trial scheduled for 15 February, and the defendants remained in custody.

The allegations therefore remain unproven, and the men are legally presumed innocent unless and until they are convicted.

London Phone Snatchers Face Fresh Police Crackdown as Met Deploys New E-Bike Fleet

London — A major police crackdown on phone snatching across London is intensifying, with specialist officers using a new fleet of high-powered police e-bikes to pursue criminals who rely on fast motorcycles and e-bikes to escape.

Mobile phone theft has become a major concern in busy parts of the capital, with offenders often targeting pedestrians before riding away through congested streets, pedestrian areas and narrow routes where conventional police vehicles can struggle to follow.

The Metropolitan Police has now expanded its specialist e-bike fleet from five to 25 bikes, giving officers greater ability to pursue suspects and reach locations that are difficult for cars and conventional police motorcycles to access. 

Police take the fight to phone thieves

The new police e-bikes are being used as part of a wider strategy to tackle criminals who use two-wheelers to commit offences.

According to the Met, the lightweight bikes allow specially trained officers to move rapidly through London traffic, navigate narrow streets and even use staircases when pursuing suspects.

The technology is particularly valuable during phone-snatching incidents, where every second can matter.

The Met says its specialist officers have also been able to use tracking information from stolen phones to follow suspects and intervene quickly. A recent Westminster operation resulted in 187 arrests and 157 vehicles being seized, targeting prolific thieves using e-bikes and mopeds. 

Criminals using powerful e-bikes

Police say some offenders are using high-powered or illegally modified e-bikes because of their acceleration and ability to move quickly through congested areas.

The problem has prompted the Met to increase enforcement against illegal e-bikes and e-scooters.

In the first seven months of 2026, the force seized more than 2,500 illegal e-bikes and e-scooters, already exceeding the total seized during the whole of 2025. 

The Met has also introduced roadside testing technology known as “rolling roads”, allowing officers to check whether suspected modified bikes comply with legal requirements.

A wider investigation into phone theft

The crackdown is not simply about catching riders on the streets.

Police investigations have also targeted wider criminal networks believed to be involved in the movement and resale of stolen phones.

In one investigation involving the Met and Apple, officers recovered more than 1,000 phones and 200 laptops reportedly destined for export. Police said children as young as 14 had allegedly been recruited and offered hundreds of pounds, with incentives promoted through social media.

This highlights how a phone snatch on a London street can potentially form part of a much larger criminal supply chain.

London streets become the new battleground

The deployment of police e-bikes represents a significant change in the way officers respond to street crime.

Instead of relying solely on police cars, officers can now pursue suspects using vehicles designed to operate in the same environments as the criminals themselves.

The Met says neighbourhood crime has fallen by 14% over the past year, while phone theft has also fallen substantially. However, the force continues to regard phone snatching and robbery as priorities.

For Londoners, the message from police is clear: phone thieves may be able to accelerate away from a victim, but officers are increasingly equipped to follow them.

With 25 specialist police e-bikes now available, London’s phone-snatching gangs face a new challenge — a police response capable of keeping up with them on the streets where they operate.

Hundreds of Police Line the Streets for Funeral of Dad-of-Two Killed in A66 Crash

Hundreds of police officers lined the streets of Hartlepool as the funeral of PC Matthew Blades, a married father-of-two who was killed in the devastating A66 crash, took place.

The 37-year-old Cleveland Police officer was remembered by colleagues, emergency service workers, family and members of the public during an emotional service at St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in his home town.

PC Blades died alongside fellow officer PC Tom Clough, 38, during a head-on collision on the A66 at South Bank, near Middlesbrough, on August 22. Five young men travelling in a Volkswagen Passat also died in the crash. 

A powerful show of respect

Officers from police forces across the UK gathered for the funeral, with standard bearers representing every UK force.

Hundreds of officers stood along Hutton Avenue as the funeral cortege approached the church. Some wore special identity patches bearing the names of PC Blades and PC Clough as a mark of respect for their fallen colleagues.

The hearse carried a floral tribute reading “Dad”, highlighting the devastating loss suffered by PC Blades’ family.

Four pipers and a drummer accompanied the procession, playing Amazing Grace as the coffin, covered by a Union Flag, was carried into the church.

Members of the public also gathered along the route, with four mounted officers standing guard near the cordon.

Remembering a dedicated officer

PC Blades was an armed response officer and was remembered as a devoted family man and committed member of the police service.

Cleveland Police Chief Constable Victoria Fuller attended the service, alongside policing minister Sarah Jones and Home Office minister Anna Turley. Emergency service representatives from the North East Ambulance Service and Great North Air Ambulance were also present. 

The funeral came amid continuing grief following the deaths of both PC Blades and PC Clough, whose deaths have deeply affected the policing community across the country.

A community united in grief

The enormous police presence demonstrated the strength of the bond between officers and the respect held for those who lose their lives while serving the public.

For PC Blades’ family, however, the day was ultimately about a husband, father and loved one whose life was tragically cut short.

As hundreds of officers stood silently along the streets, the funeral provided a final opportunity to honour a colleague who had dedicated his life to protecting others.

The A66 tragedy claimed seven lives and has left families, colleagues and communities across Teesside facing an immense loss.
