In a significant development, Vikat Bhagat has been found guilty of the rape and murder of 28-year-old Irish backpacker Danielle McLaughlin in Goa, India. The verdict, delivered on February 14, 2025, concludes a protracted legal battle spanning nearly eight years.

McLaughlin had been in India for two weeks, pursuing her passion for yoga and planning further travels. Her tragic death not only devastated her family but also highlighted ongoing concerns about violence against women in India.
