Tragedy on Boxing Day: Three People Missing After House Fire Near Stroud, Gloucestershire
Stroud, Gloucestershire — Emergency services responded to a devastating house fire in the early hours of Boxing Day, leaving three people missing and a community in shock.
At around 3 a.m. on 26 December, Gloucestershire Police, Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, and ambulance crews were called to a property on Brimscombe Hill, near Stroud, following reports of a large blaze.
Crews worked through the night to contain the fire. One occupant was able to escape the burning house and was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital for treatment. However, three people believed to have been inside the property at the time have not yet been accounted for.
Authorities have established a cordon around the scene, which is expected to remain in place for several days while investigations continue and search operations proceed. Roads in the area were closed on Friday morning as emergency responders worked at the scene.
A Gloucestershire Constabulary spokesperson said in an update that a joint investigation with the fire service is underway to determine the cause of the fire, and that the coroner has been informed — standard procedure in incidents involving fatalities or potential fatalities.
Stroud’s Labour MP, Dr Simon Opher, described the fire as a “tragedy for the whole community,” and urged residents to respect the privacy of those affected. Speaking after the incident, he said emergency services are working professionally under challenging circumstances.
Cllr Chloe Turner, who represents Minchinhampton on Stroud District Council, reiterated the need for the community to come together, offering support to anyone impacted by the incident and asking anyone with relevant information to contact the police.
At this stage, no official confirmation has been released that the three missing people are deceased. Police continue to search the property and surrounding area, and have asked the public to avoid speculation and stay clear of the scene while operations continue.
Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is asked to call 101, quoting the incident reference number provided by Gloucestershire Constabulary.
