The ‘Ice Queen’: Woman at Centre of Lewisham Brothel Network

A woman who called herself the “Ice Queen” has been convicted following a major prostitution and trafficking investigation involving brothels in Lewisham and elsewhere across London and the South East.
Achareeya Spurr, 49, was described in court as the leader of a criminal network that operated properties used as brothels, including locations in Deptford and Catford.
According to evidence reported from Woolwich Crown Court, Spurr used the online name “Freya Ice Queen” while communicating with members of the network. Prosecutors said women were recruited in Thailand and brought to the UK before being subjected to highly restrictive working conditions.
Women allegedly forced to work long hours
The court heard that some of the women were expected to work from around 10am until midnight, with prosecutors describing working days of approximately 14 hours.
The women were allegedly placed into a system of debt bondage, with a £25,000 debt imposed on them for expenses associated with bringing them to Britain.
Their passports were reportedly taken from them, while threats concerning immigration status and their families were allegedly used to discourage them from complaining or leaving.
Some women were reportedly paid as little as £50 a day, despite seeing multiple customers.
Brothels across London and the South East
Spurr was said to have operated two properties in Lewisham — one at Distillery Tower near Deptford Bridge and another on Longbridge Way near Catford.
The prosecution also alleged that Spurr and her husband, Chin Ping, were involved with a further 22 brothels across London and the South East.
Two other men, Ugur Sahin and Sarunyoo Siriwan, described as members of the network, were also convicted following the five-week trial.
The prosecution alleged that Sahin helped transport women from airports, while Siriwan assisted with registering women on an adult-services website and arranging bookings.
Police investigation
The investigation reportedly began after one of the women was expelled from the accommodation used by the network, bringing her into contact with authorities.
Police subsequently searched properties linked to Spurr and Ping. More than £50,000 in cash was reportedly discovered at their home, alongside luxury watches and designer goods.
The prosecution argued that the contrast between the luxury items allegedly possessed by the organisers and the low amounts paid to the women demonstrated the financial nature of the operation.
Convictions
Spurr pleaded guilty to offences relating to facilitating the travel of people to the UK for exploitation, controlling people for financial gain and transferring criminal property.
Ping, Siriwan and Sahin were found guilty of related offences following the trial.
The defendants are due to return to court for sentencing in September 2026.
The case highlights the distinction between consensual sex work and exploitation and human trafficking, where individuals may be controlled through threats, debt, confiscation of documents or other forms of coercion.
