Scottish Woman Elisabeth-Jane Ross Found Dead in Suitcase in Greece as Murder Investigation Continues
Greek police are continuing their investigation into the death of 38-year-old Elisabeth-Jane Ross, a Scottish woman whose body was discovered inside a suitcase in an abandoned building in the Kypseli district of Athens.
The grim discovery was made on 18 July after a passer-by reported a strong smell coming from the derelict property. Officers arriving at the scene found Ms Ross’s body concealed inside a suitcase, prompting an immediate homicide investigation.
Authorities confirmed that Ms Ross had travelled to Greece in late June and was last seen alive on 15 July after leaving friends in the Athens area. According to investigators, she had planned to meet acquaintances before disappearing.
Police have revealed that Ms Ross’s mobile phone continued to send messages to members of her family after they believe she had already died. Investigators suspect the phone may have been used by another person in an attempt to create the impression that she was still alive and delay concerns over her disappearance.
A post-mortem examination reportedly found no obvious signs of traumatic injury, and toxicology tests are being carried out to establish the exact cause of death. Detectives are also reviewing CCTV footage, analysing mobile phone data and tracing Ms Ross’s final movements.
Greek authorities have worked alongside international law enforcement to formally identify the victim, while the UK authorities are providing support to her family.
No arrests have been announced, and police have not disclosed a motive. Investigators continue to appeal for information as they seek to establish exactly what happened during the final days of Ms Ross’s life.
