Former California Clinician Arrested Over Alleged Sexual Abuse of Former Client

A former California behavioral health clinician has been arrested and charged following allegations that she engaged in an unlawful sexual relationship with a former teenage client after he was released from juvenile detention.

According to prosecutors in Contra Costa County, Sofia Ann-Buitron Drotts, 26, was taken into custody after an investigation into allegations that she groomed and sexually abused a 17-year-old male who had previously been under her professional care. Authorities allege that she was assigned as the teenager’s clinician while he was housed at the John A. Davis Juvenile Detention Center in Martinez.

Prosecutors have filed multiple felony charges against Drotts, including allegations relating to unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, sending harmful material to a minor, and possession of child sexual abuse material. The charges stem from alleged conduct that investigators say occurred after the teenager’s release from detention.

The investigation reportedly began after information was provided to law enforcement by the Contra Costa County Probation Department. Concord Police arrested Drotts on July 14, and the case has since been referred to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.

The alleged victim’s family has also filed a legal claim against Contra Costa County, alleging that the teenager was groomed and sexually exploited by someone entrusted with his care. The claim argues that safeguards failed to protect a vulnerable young person while he was receiving behavioral health services.

Contra Costa Health has acknowledged the case but has stated that, because it is both an active criminal investigation and a personnel matter, it cannot comment further.

At the time of writing, Drotts has been charged but has not been convicted. She is entitled to the presumption of innocence, and the allegations will be tested through the court process.

The case has raised renewed concerns about professional boundaries, safeguarding procedures, and the protection of vulnerable young people receiving mental health treatment. Authorities have encouraged anyone with information relevant to the investigation to contact law enforcement.

Failed Asylum Seeker Jailed After Arriving at School Armed with Weapons

A failed asylum seeker has been jailed after arriving at a secondary school in Greater Manchester carrying a hammer, a hatchet, a kitchen knife and a container of petrol in an incident that sparked a major police response.

Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court heard that 21-year-old Both Douk Deng, a South Sudanese national whose asylum applications had been refused on three occasions, entered the grounds of Edgar Wood Academy in Heywood while the school was closed during the summer holidays.

Builders working on the site became concerned after seeing Deng acting erratically and contacted police. Officers quickly arrived and arrested him before anyone was harmed.

Police recovered a hammer, a hatchet, a seven-inch kitchen knife and a jerry can containing petrol. CCTV footage presented in court showed Deng walking around the school grounds and behaving suspiciously before his arrest.

The court also heard that a day earlier Deng had visited another nearby school, where he caused damage to an intercom system.

During sentencing, prosecutors said there was no evidence that Deng intended to attack pupils or staff, as the school was closed at the time. His defence argued that he was suffering from frustration and isolation after repeated failures to secure asylum and employment, and had sought to attract attention to his situation.

Deng pleaded guilty to multiple offences, including possession of offensive weapons and criminal damage. He was sentenced to two years in prison.

The incident has prompted renewed debate over public safety, the handling of failed asylum seekers and the speed at which immigration cases are resolved. Police praised the swift actions of construction workers who reported the suspicious behaviour, preventing what could have become a far more serious incident.

Authorities have reassured the public that there was no threat to children during the incident because the school was closed for the summer break. The case nevertheless serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and rapid reporting of suspicious activity.

New York City Mayor Calls for Benjamin Netanyahu’s Arrest Over ICC War Crimes Warrant

New York, USA — New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has called on the United States government to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should he travel to New York later this year, citing an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court

In a public statement, Mayor Mamdani described Netanyahu as a “war criminal” and urged federal authorities to enforce the ICC warrant. However, he acknowledged that New York City itself does not have the legal authority to carry out such an arrest. Following a legal review, the mayor said his administration had concluded that any action relating to the ICC warrant would fall under the jurisdiction of the U.S. federal government rather than the city.

The controversy comes ahead of Netanyahu’s expected visit to New York for the United Nations General Assembly later this year. The ICC issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu in 2024 over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity linked to the conflict in Gaza. Israel rejects the allegations, and Netanyahu has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, describing the accusations as politically motivated and calling the ICC’s case illegitimate.

Netanyahu has responded by confirming that he still intends to travel to New York despite the mayor’s comments. He criticised Mamdani’s remarks, saying they were inflammatory and insisting that he would continue with his planned visit to address the United Nations.

The issue has sparked significant political debate across the United States. Supporters of the mayor argue that international legal rulings should be respected, while critics contend that a U.S. mayor has no authority over foreign policy or the enforcement of international arrest warrants. Legal experts have also noted that the United States is not a party to the Rome Statute, the treaty that established the ICC, making enforcement of its warrants within the U.S. legally and diplomatically complex.

The debate highlights the continuing international divisions over the war in Gaza and the role of international justice in addressing allegations of war crimes. As Netanyahu’s anticipated visit approaches, attention is likely to remain focused on how U.S. authorities respond to calls for action under the ICC warrant.

Mexican Cartels Accused of Using Nigerian Forests as Hidden Methamphetamine Laboratories

Nigerian authorities have raised growing concerns over the emergence of transnational drug syndicates after uncovering multiple large-scale methamphetamine laboratories hidden deep inside forests in the country’s south-west.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says recent operations have exposed criminal networks involving both Nigerian suspects and Mexican nationals allegedly working together to manufacture methamphetamine on an industrial scale. According to the agency, the discoveries represent a significant escalation in organised crime and demonstrate an attempt by international drug trafficking organisations to establish manufacturing operations within Nigeria.

One of the most recent raids took place in a remote forest in Tapa Village, Oyo State, where NDLEA officers dismantled what officials described as a sophisticated clandestine methamphetamine laboratory. During the operation, authorities arrested five suspects, including a Mexican national alleged to have been brought into Nigeria to provide specialist expertise in methamphetamine production. Investigators also recovered chemical processing equipment, reactors, distillation units and substances that field tests identified as methamphetamine and precursor chemicals. The NDLEA stated that all evidence has been secured for prosecution.

The raid followed another major operation weeks earlier in neighbouring Ogun State, where officials uncovered what the NDLEA described as the largest clandestine methamphetamine laboratory ever found in Nigeria. Authorities said the site was operated by a transnational criminal organisation involving Nigerian suspects and Mexican collaborators, with more than 2.4 tonnes of methamphetamine and precursor chemicals seized. Ten suspects were arrested during that investigation, including several Mexican nationals.

NDLEA Chairman Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd.) said the discoveries indicate that international drug syndicates are attempting to transform parts of south-west Nigeria into a synthetic drug manufacturing hub. He warned that criminal organisations believed dense forests would provide cover from law enforcement but insisted Nigerian authorities would continue targeting such operations.

Security analysts note that methamphetamine production differs from cocaine cultivation because it relies on chemical precursors rather than agricultural crops. This allows criminal organisations to establish laboratories in remote locations wherever they believe they can avoid detection. Experts have warned that West Africa’s strategic location, transport links and established trafficking routes make the region attractive to international organised crime groups seeking new production bases.

The latest discoveries have intensified calls for stronger border security, improved monitoring of precursor chemicals and greater international cooperation between African, European and Latin American law enforcement agencies. Nigerian authorities say dismantling these laboratories is essential to protecting communities from the harmful effects of synthetic drugs while preventing the country from becoming a major centre for international methamphetamine production.

Investigations into the alleged criminal networks remain ongoing, and those arrested are entitled to a fair trial. Prosecutors will need to present evidence in court, where the allegations will be tested through the judicial process.

Five Police Officers Injured After Police Boat Crashes Into Westminster Bridge

London, UK – Five Metropolitan Police officers were injured after a police boat crashed into Westminster Bridge while responding to an emergency incident on the River Thames on Friday afternoon. Emergency services rushed to the scene following the dramatic collision, which temporarily brought central London to a standstill.

According to the Metropolitan Police, the Marine Policing Unit vessel was responding to reports of a person in the River Thames when it struck Westminster Bridge at speed. The impact threw several officers into the water, prompting an immediate rescue operation involving fellow emergency responders, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), the London Fire Brigade and the London Ambulance Service.

All five officers were taken to hospital for treatment. One officer has since been discharged, while four remain in hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities have confirmed that no members of the public were injured during the incident.

Eyewitnesses described hearing a loud bang before seeing officers in the River Thames wearing inflated life jackets as emergency crews quickly moved in to rescue them. Several nearby vessels also assisted before specialist rescue teams arrived.

The collision led to the temporary closure of Westminster Bridge and disrupted river traffic as investigators examined the damaged police vessel. Emergency cordons remained in place for several hours while the scene was made safe and evidence was gathered.

The Metropolitan Police said its immediate priority is the welfare of the injured officers and their families. A full investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the collision, with investigators expected to examine the vessel, weather conditions and the circumstances surrounding the emergency response.

The incident has prompted messages of support from across the emergency services, with many praising the swift actions of rescuers who ensured all officers were recovered from the water within minutes. While the investigation continues, officials have stressed that there is no indication of any wider threat to public safety.

The crash serves as a reminder of the risks faced by emergency service personnel who respond to incidents on Britain’s waterways, where operations are often conducted under challenging and unpredictable conditions.

Yung Filly Court Case: Trial Continues in Australia

British YouTuber, rapper and television personality Yung Filly, whose real name is Andrés Felipe Valencia Barrientos, is currently standing trial in the District Court of Western Australia over a series of serious criminal charges arising from an alleged incident in Perth in September 2024.

The prosecution alleges that after a performance at a Perth nightclub, Barrientos met a woman in her 20s before travelling with her to a hotel. Prosecutors claim that what began as a consensual encounter later became non-consensual and involved multiple acts of sexual assault and physical violence.

Barrientos has pleaded not guilty to all charges, which include multiple counts of sexual penetration without consent, assault occasioning bodily harm and impeding the complainant’s breathing by applying pressure to her neck. He denies all allegations and maintains that the sexual activity was consensual.

During the trial, the complainant gave evidence describing the events of the night and alleged that she suffered injuries during the encounter. The court has also heard testimony from witnesses and reviewed photographs and other evidence presented by both the prosecution and defence. Barrientos later took the witness stand in his own defence, telling the court that the encounter was consensual and denying that he assaulted or choked the woman.

The case has attracted significant international attention because of Yung Filly’s popularity as an online entertainer, musician and television presenter. However, under the principles of criminal justice, the allegations remain unproven until the court reaches a verdict.

The trial is continuing, and no verdict has yet been delivered. The court will consider all of the evidence before determining whether the prosecution has proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. Until then, Barrientos remains presumed innocent under the law.

Prince Harry Faces Mounting Financial Pressure Amid Reports of Debt Concerns

Prince Harry is facing renewed speculation over his finances after recent reports suggested the Duke of Sussex is under increasing financial pressure following a series of costly legal battles and a slowdown in major commercial opportunities. While there is no confirmed evidence that Prince Harry is insolvent or unable to meet his financial obligations, commentators have questioned whether rising expenses are placing a strain on the couple’s finances.

Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, have relied on private income from media projects, business ventures and speaking engagements. However, several reports have claimed that some high-profile partnerships have not generated the long-term revenue originally anticipated, leading to greater scrutiny of their financial position.

The latest discussion follows the conclusion of legal proceedings in the United Kingdom, where Prince Harry has incurred significant legal costs after challenging decisions relating to his security arrangements and pursuing media-related cases. These expenses, combined with the ongoing costs of maintaining a private household, security and international travel, have fuelled claims that the Duke is reassessing his spending.

Reports have also suggested that the Duke and Duchess have been reviewing household costs and making changes to staffing as part of wider efforts to manage expenditure, although neither Harry nor Meghan has publicly confirmed that they are experiencing a debt crisis.

Despite the speculation, Prince Harry continues to support charitable organisations and public engagements through the Archewell Foundation and other initiatives. No official financial statements have indicated that he is unable to meet his obligations, and much of the reporting surrounding a “debt crisis” remains based on media analysis and unnamed sources rather than confirmed facts.

As public interest in the Duke’s future remains high, questions surrounding his finances are likely to continue. Until Prince Harry or his representatives release further details, claims of a severe financial crisis should be treated with caution, as they have not been independently confirmed.

Massive Explosion Rocks Essex as Major Incident Declared

A massive explosion and fire at an industrial site in Rettendon, Essex, has prompted emergency services to declare a major incident, with more than 100 firefighters deployed to tackle the blaze.

The explosion occurred on Friday afternoon after a fire spread to a fertiliser storage area, triggering a powerful blast that was heard and felt across large parts of Essex. Thick black smoke billowed into the sky and was visible for miles, while nearby residents reported feeling the shockwave from their homes.

Emergency crews responded in large numbers, with firefighters working throughout the evening to prevent the fire from spreading to surrounding industrial buildings and nearby farmland. Roads in the area were closed, and residents were advised to keep their windows and doors shut because of the heavy smoke. Authorities also evacuated nearby properties as a precaution.

The East of England Ambulance Service declared a critical incident to support the emergency response. According to Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, 20 firefighters were taken to hospital following the explosion. Four sustained minor injuries, while the remaining firefighters underwent precautionary assessments, including checks for hearing damage caused by the blast. All have since been discharged from hospital

Three fire engines and two additional emergency vehicles were damaged or destroyed during the incident, highlighting the intensity of the explosion and the dangerous conditions faced by emergency responders. Fire officials praised the courage and professionalism of the crews who battled the blaze under extremely hazardous circumstances.

Investigators are now working to establish the exact cause of the fire and the subsequent fertiliser explosion. Officials have not indicated that there is any ongoing threat to the public, although emergency services remain at the site to deal with remaining hotspots and ensure the area is safe.

The incident has become one of the largest industrial fires seen in Essex in recent years, with dramatic images and videos of the explosion rapidly spreading across social media. Local authorities have thanked residents for following safety advice and have urged the public to continue avoiding the area while investigations continue.

Andy Burnham Opens ‘No. 10 North’ in Landmark Shift of Power to Northern England

Manchester, UK – Prime Minister Andy Burnham has officially opened No. 10 North, a new government headquarters in Manchester designed to bring the heart of government closer to the people of Northern England. The move marks one of the most significant changes to the way Britain is governed in modern history, with Burnham declaring that the era of power being concentrated solely in Westminster is coming to an end.

Based at Heron House in Manchester city centre, No. 10 North will serve as a major government hub where ministers, civil servants and regional leaders can work together on economic growth, transport, housing and devolution. The office is intended to complement, rather than replace, the traditional Downing Street headquarters in London.

Speaking at the opening, Burnham described the project as a symbol of a “rewired Britain”, arguing that communities across the North deserve a greater voice in shaping national policy. He said the new base would help ensure that decisions affecting Northern England are made closer to the people and businesses they impact.

For decades, campaigners have argued that too much political and economic power has been concentrated in London. Supporters of No. 10 North believe the initiative could help reduce regional inequalities, strengthen local decision-making and encourage greater investment across the North of England.

The announcement has received a mixed political response. Supporters have praised the move as a bold step towards genuine devolution, while critics have questioned the cost of operating a second government base and whether it will deliver meaningful long-term change. Burnham has rejected claims that the project is merely symbolic, insisting it represents a lasting commitment to decentralising government.

The government has also confirmed plans for some civil servants to be based in Manchester, with No. 10 North expected to play a key role in coordinating economic growth and regional development initiatives.

Whether No. 10 North becomes a defining moment in British politics or simply another experiment in constitutional reform will depend on its ability to deliver tangible improvements for communities across Northern England. For now, however, the opening represents a historic attempt to reshape how government operates, placing Northern England at the centre of the UK’s future political and economic agenda.

UK Considers Introduction of New £30 Banknote

The possibility of a new £30 banknote entering circulation in the United Kingdom has sparked widespread discussion among consumers, businesses, and financial experts.

While the Bank of England currently issues £5, £10, £20, and £50 notes, reports of a potential £30 denomination have generated interest over how it could affect everyday transactions. Supporters argue that a £30 note could reduce the number of banknotes people carry, particularly for larger cash purchases, while also helping to bridge the gap between the existing £20 and £50 notes.

Economists suggest that introducing a new denomination could improve cash-handling efficiency for some retailers and cash-based businesses. However, critics question whether there is sufficient demand for a £30 note at a time when digital and contactless payments continue to grow in popularity across the UK.

Any decision to introduce a new banknote would require extensive consultation, security testing, and public awareness campaigns. Modern polymer notes contain advanced anti-counterfeiting features, and any new denomination would be expected to include similar protections.

Members of the public have also debated who or what should appear on a potential £30 note. Suggestions have ranged from notable historical figures to landmarks representing the nations of the United Kingdom.

At present, the Bank of England has not announced plans to issue a £30 banknote, and the denomination remains a subject of speculation. Nevertheless, the discussion highlights the ongoing evolution of the UK’s currency system as it adapts to changing economic and consumer needs.

For now, the familiar £5, £10, £20, and £50 notes remain the official banknotes in circulation throughout England and Wales.
